I have a confession to make — living 5,500 miles away from my mom is one of the hardest things I’ve ever done. Why? Because I have a bond with her that is pretty darn special.
When we went home for Thanksgiving, I got to spend so much quality time with her that leaving again was one of the hardest things ever — it never gets easier 🙁
Thankfully, distance has only made our bond stronger. Even from so far away, she and I are on the exact same wavelength when it comes to food, fashion and everything in between. Because of our special bond, when I heard the story of Jasmine, the CEO of Nene Shoes and her mom, I had to share.
Nene Shoes was started in 2014 with one goal in mind: to strengthen the bond between moms and daughters through shoes they love. One year later, they have created their initial collection which is SO FABULOUS. I mean seriously…take a look for yourself!
How do I know my mom and I share the same genetics? We sent the exact same photo to each other the day our Nenes arrived!
And because my mom is so incredibly hip, her message read: First I whip, and then I NENE….
Nene Shoes is named for Jasmine’s mom, affectionately called “Nene”, who, unfortunately passed away when she was back home in the Philippines.

When I heard this heartbreaking news, I was devastated. I know what it’s like to be apart from your mom and the thought of anything happening to my own mom while I wasn’t there tears me up inside. I love that Jasmine has continued to strengthen the bonds of moms and daughters across the world with her fabulous collection of shoes

You know how they always say “One day you’ll wake up and realize you’re exactly like your mother…”?
Well for me, that will be the best day ever.
What’s your best memory with your mom?
Thank you to Nene Shoes for sponsoring this post!

You made me teary at the end of the post. 😀 I am about 50% my mom and 50% my grandmother. I hope that I will have as strong a bond with Alexa as she grows up.
