Things have been a bit rough here in Hawaii. In the course of one week, we lost our air conditioning, washer and dryer, and kitchen sink. When we reported it to our landlord, she told us that:
1. It is Hawaii and you don’t need air if you just open the windows. What?!
2. It helps if you use soap detergent in your laundry and “that could be the source of the smell”
3.
She didn’t have time to address the kitchen sink and to put a bucket underneath all the leaks and try not to use it. Uhh…it’s the kitchen sink, not an underused guest appliance.
Fab. U. Lous.
Roll all that together and it makes for one hell of a week…and a cranky house. By Friday, all Dane and I could do was look at each other and laugh. It seemed like every single day something new broke and we got yet another surprising response from our landlord. I mean, seriously, she questioned our capability of performing a task like laundry…get real, lady.
(It’s now Monday. We still do not have air, a working washer or dryer, a usable kitchen sink or dishwasher. YAY!)
And what do you do when you can’t cook in your kitchen? You go out to eat. And drink.
And drink.
Saturday I woke up bitching not saying a word about how hot I was in our 81 degree house. Knowing this, Dane announces we would be taking the afternoon to ride horses on the beach!
Ladies, he’s a keeper. Want to know what else is a keeper? This photograph, as it adequately describes the relationship my horse and I had.
Ohhhhh Wilbur.
He was angry from the moment we saddled up and our relationship only went downhill from there.
Listen buddy, I’d be upset if President Obama had taken my reigns, too. Not kidding, check it out here. Benicio has also been ridden by Rihanna, Will.I.Am, & featured on Hawaii 5-O. But I don’t blame you if you’ve never seen it. That show is terrible and sorry, Hawaii doesn’t look like that.
Saturday night we attended a St. Patrick’s Day party with some of our friends on the North Shore. They knew about my gluten allergy and made an entire gluten-free Irish spread on my account. #keepers If there’s one thing I know about, it’s a good breakfast. Thankfully, Dane feels the same way and our weekend ritual is to treat ourselves out. This Sunday was no different and we enjoyed healthy vegetable omelettes from the local Koa Pancake House. There are some days where Greek yogurt and honey just isn’t gonna cut it. Ya feel me?
And after that, when we should have been looking for new houses, we got lost in literature by the pool and spent some quality time Skyping with our families. I can’t believe it’s the beginning of a new week already, but this weekend holds amazing things for us.
Remember this little card?
Oh yeah, that’s happening.
