Frosted Brown Sugar Cookies

Eat, Food · June 10, 2013 · 7 Comments

Looking for a good cookie recipe that is simple and pleases a crowd? Try my Frosted Brown Sugar Cookies!

I’m always on the lookout for a good cookie recipe, one that requires very little thinking and even fewer steps. This is because I know I can make something delicious without having to use 1.75 million ingredients. Last week when I posted all my food photos on Instagram, I got so many requests for recipes. I’ll be sharing them on an ongoing basis, so enjoy!

I’m not kidding when I warn you that baking these is going to warrant a couple extra people asking “Hey, can I get that recipe?” Just trust me on this one!

To make these Frosted Brown Sugar Cookies at home, you will need:

For the cookies:

1/2 cup butter, softened

1 cup packed brown sugar

1 egg

1/2 cup sour cream

1-3/4 cups all-purpose flour (I use Cup 4 Cup flour, available at Williams-Sonoma)

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1/4 teaspoon salt

For the frosting:

1/4 cup butter

1/2 cup packed brown sugar

2 tablespoons milk

1 cup confectioners’ sugar

1. In a small bowl, cream butter and brown sugar. Beat in egg and sour cream; mix well. Combine the flour, baking soda and salt; gradually add to creamed mixture and mix well.

2. Drop by tablespoonfuls 2 in. apart onto greased baking sheets. Bake at 375° for 9-11 minutes or until golden brown.
**Nix the golden brown part. They’re not going to look “done” when you take them out of the oven. If they do, they’re going to be hard as rocks. I’d say 8 1/2 minutes is the best time.

3. For the frosting, mix it all together, and put on the cookies while they’re still hot. This part is really important, because it’s how the icing looks so smooth and pretty.
