Puppy parents, that is.
Sorry for anyone who just had a heart attack. Quite frankly the idea of having to take care of another living, breathing human is enough to stop my own heart too.
As you may have seen on Instagram last week, Dane surprised me out of the blue with an email regarding our newest addition.
The truth is that this puppy has been a long time coming. I’ve been a crazy dog lady ever since I can remember. When Maddie passed away this summer, I was devastated. She had been my dog ever since I could remember and when I moved to Hawaii, she was too old to come with me. I can’t even talk about it now without tearing up. She was the best dog ever.
As soon as Maddie crossed the Rainbow Bridge, Dane was adament we would have a puppy of our own, not to replace Maddie, but to bring the same joy and love that every dog does to his/her “people”. Oh my God, I’m re-reading all of this and right about now, non-dog people are writing me off as a psychopath.
In any case, finding a dog in Hawaii became a real issue. Between my allergies to certain breeds and Dane’s love of certain breeds–finding the right fit to please both of us was a struggle. We just kept coming back to Labs. HOW CAN YOU NOT OMG?!
We both agreed that when this deployment was over, we would settle in our new house with our new four-legged lady. Unbeknownst to me, Dane had plans of his own!
We are now on the waiting list with Aloha Labradors (yes, they’re the Eddie Bauer dog breeders!) and are slated to pick up our pup in Spring 2014. Shocked, Excited, Anxious–but mostly just incredibly HAPPY 🙂
I cannot even handle the cuteness, can you?!
