DIY Infused Vodka

Drink · October 22, 2013 · 8 Comments

Looking for a simple holiday gift for a hostess or friend? Try this simply DIY infused vodka that is easy to make and can be completely customized.

Here is a two step instruction manual on how to give the best holiday gift (or anytime gift) of all time. Step 1: Infuse alcohol. Step 2: Add a beautiful bow. AND THERE YOU GO….DIY INFUSED VODKA. Now, what is this alcohol infusing you speak of? I’m so glad you asked.

Several nights ago, I found myself at a ladies night get together which consisted of wine drinking and alcohol making. Seems like the perfect combination to me–drink some, make some..HAYYYY.

To make this DIY Infused Vodka at home, you will need:
1 large bottle of vodka
4-6 Mason Jars (with seals!)
Cut up fruit (any kind you can think of!)

This recipe is so simple I hesitate to even throw it into the recipe category. I mean, a 5 year old could do this. DISCLAIMER: I don’t condone allowing children around alcohol.

1.Think of types of fruit that you like and would enjoy drinking and cut them like you would if you were to serve them. We used grapefruit, apples, limes, lemons, pineapple, & cucumbers (not a fruit, I realize).
2. Open a Mason Jar and fill halfway with fruit. Get creative–my favorite is lemons, limes and cucumber.
3. Pour vodka to fill the jar.
4. Seal and shake vigorously.
5. Store in a dark, cool location (basements are great) and shake 2 times per day for a week.

At this point you have the option of removing the fruit or leaving it in. Sometimes the jar looks prettier with the fruit left in 🙂

Now, what is that cinnamon pictured Kait? Well, I took it upon myself to craft something a bit different for mine. I took cinnamon sticks and apples and added them to my jars. I would’ve added cloves as well, BUT THERE’S ALWAYS NEXT TIME. I think this creation will make the perfect addition to holiday Hot Toddies. All you’ve got to do is slap a pretty bow on these bad boys and VOILA! the perfect present.
