Book Review: Sharp Objects By Gillian Flynn

Life, Lifestyle · March 17, 2015 · 6 Comments

It’s been SO long since I blogged about what I’ve been reading. In all truth, I usually take my reading recommendations from Sarah because girlfriend has got it going on when it comes to plowing through novels. I mean that in the best way possible, of course, because I wish I dedicated more time to reading and less time to online shopping.

My latest read was Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn. Yes, it is the same author who wrote Gone Girl.

I absolutely loved Gone Girl in a “I cannot put this book down” type of way, so I knew that reading her other books was a must. I have to say, Sharp Objects did not disappoint. It’s much shorter than Gone Girl, but it’s still a total mind fuck (sorry, Mom) and leaves you wondering if Gillian is actually a crazy person. Or maybe that’s just me. Gillian, if you’re reading, I don’t think you’re crazy, I think you’re a talented writer and I’d love to meet you, so #callmemaybe?

I’ll give you a brief plot synopsis, but not enough to spoil it in case you have interest in reading it, too!

Camille Preaker is a journalist in the Windy City fresh off a stay in the psych ward, when she is assigned to a double murder in her hometown. Begrudgingly, she takes the assignment and returns to the home where she grew up…and to the psychotic mother she has spent her life trying to free herself from. As the book unfolds, so do the horrors of Camille’s past and you begin to wonder if there are any truly good, genuine characters.

^ if that’s not enough to convince you, maybe this book isn’t for you, but it comes highly recommended from me 🙂

What are you reading these days? I’m taking suggestions!
