I have a confession to make: I am incredibly lazy when it comes to my jewelry. I love a good statement piece, a classic pair of earrings and even a jazzy bangle…but when it comes to storing and taking care of things–I’m lazy. That’s really all there is to it.
For a long time now, my sterling silver pieces have looked so tarnished that I didn’t even have interest in wearing them. That’s a sad statement considering they’re some of my favorites! This is where the lazy part comes in–I just let them hang on my jewelry organizer waiting for the one day I might be motivated to take them to the jeweler and have them cleaned. For money. Again: I’m lazy.
On Tuesday I was sick of looking at the jewelry hanging there. It looked so sad, so I turned to my favorite doctor, Google, to fix this issue!
You Will Need:
boiling water
glass bowl
baking soda
tin foil
Step 1: Boil a tea kettle of water.
Step 2: Rip a piece of tin foil into the shape of a glass or metal bowl and arrange your jewelry in it.
Step 3: When the water is boiling (this is very important! it needs to be boiling!), pour it over your jewelry. Make sure it covers the jewelry entirely.
Step 4: While you’re pouring with one hand, add in 1 tablespoon of baking soda.
It will bubble! It will smell weird!
But you will be left with sparkly silver jewelry again! HOORAY!
Pull all the jewelry from the bowl, rinse in cool water, pat dry and begin wearing again!
