If you’re wondering, keiki is the Hawaiian word for kids. When I first moved here, I kept wondering why people kept referring to children as a Japanese spiritual practice (reiki). I’m sort of embarrassed to admit that now, but the term is pretty endearing if you ask me. Signs that say “Drive Safely For Our Keiki” always make my heart smile.
I digress…
A couple weeks ago (that’s how long it takes me to go from camera to computer, if you were wondering), Dane and I took Judy to the beach just like usual. Except for as soon as we got there, Judy was immediately surrounded by all the children on the beach, practically entranced by her ability to fetch a stick. Before I knew it, they were lining up on the beach, fighting over who got to throw the stick and cheering JU-DY HAN-SON while she swam to shore. It was probably the best moment I’ve ever had in Hawaii and I couldn’t help but snap away as it all unfolded.
