When you’re browsing local shops and you stumble across a chocolate factory, you don’t just keep walking, am I right? I feel this same way about bakeries. Raise your hand if you’re nodding in silent agreement…
These two places are actually on opposite sides of the island, but we discovered them in the same day, therefore, same post. Sorry ’bout it!
First up, Paalaa Kai Bakery in Waialua, just past the circle toward historic Haleiwa. We’ve got a whole family of donut lovers in this house, so when it came recommended to us by friends, we made it our first priority on a lazy Saturday. It did NOT disappoint and I am already brainstorming ways to make this a daily occurrence.
When we were chock full of donuts, we did the most rational thing ever…headed straight toward the chocolate store. It was a delicious decision all around. Madre Chocolate has two locations–Honolulu and Kailua–and we chose the Kailua spot. Honestly, you can’t go wrong with either. As soon as you walk in, you’re slapped in the face with a delicious cocoa smell, of which I have absolutely no issue! We were the only ones in the shop, so we were able to try a few of their delicious bars. Next time, I’m going for the decadent looking truffles!
It should be noted that one of the coolest aspects of Hawaii is being able to find delicious coffee almost anywhere you go. We picked up this bag of Puna Kazumura based on its delicious smell and we are anxiously awaiting the taste!
Are you a donut lover? Chocolate lover? Or both?
