I’m so glad you asked!
First of all, how is it already September? September always reminds me that summer is officially over and the holidays are just around the corner. For me, that’s just an excuse to bust out the Christmas carols VERY SOON. Oh, who’s kidding who — they play year round.
Anyway! Let’s see how I did with my August goals. I never did a post on them here on the ol’ blog, because if I’m being honest — I didn’t want anyone being like HEY REMEMBER THAT TIME YOU WERE GOING TO ______. Fear of accountability to the internet can be a very scary thing!
In any case, my goals were to:
Exercise more
Attend church with Dane every week
Be more present
Drink less soda/eat more healthy
1. Exercise more. I really got into this one, I won’t lie! Dane and I discovered an absolutely fantastic kickboxing class that leaves us both laying in a pool of our own sweat. I feel like I get such a great workout and I’m using muscles I never even knew existed! The downside is that it’s held at 5AM. We only go a couple times a week, but are sure to hit the 8AM Saturday class. When I didn’t go to boxing, I tried hard to walk 3-4 miles with my fitness buddy Jen and checked out a few new hikes.
2. Attend church with Dane every week. I’m giving myself an A+ on this one. Not only did we go to church every week, we made it a priority. When we knew we couldn’t make Sunday, we went on Saturday night. We also started doing a Daily Devotional together, which has been such a nice way to connect with each other more during the week. I don’t talk a lot about religion on the blog, because I’m a firm believer that you don’t always need to find God in a church, so supplementing weekend services with the devotionals has been really great.
3. Be more present. I struggle with this in many aspects of my life. My goal was to be able to put our phones and electronics away as soon as we both got done with work for the day. We would both put them away first thing, and then we would realize we had more that needed completed before the next day. I would say I got a C- in this. I passed, but it wasn’t pretty. My goal for September is to be more vigilant.
4. Drink less soda/eat more healthy. I kicked the soda portion of this goal outta the park. I was a 2 Diet Cokes a day girl. Now I drink maybe 1 or 2 A WEEK! I don’t feel nearly as sluggish as I once did and I don’t get pounding headaches when I go without it. Admittedly, I love a cold Diet Coke once in awhile, so I will probably never give them up completely. As far as eating healthy, I have a refrigerator full of fresh cut fruit and produce, but I also made a butter cake yesterday. I’ll let you draw your own conclusions. September is a new month, right?
