A little while ago, I did a post on my best tips for shopping at Costco. So many of you loved it, that I figured I should do another post for my second favorite store…TARGET.
Whenever I walk in the mecca of the red, I find myself wandering down aisles of things I didn’t even know I needed. A new swimsuit top? Sure! A clearance picture frame? Of course!
More often than not, I’m waddling up to the counter with an arm full of things I did not come to Target to purchase. I never get a cart for this very reason — yet it continues to backfire. #shopaholicsanonymouswhereareyou
In any case, some of the helpful tips I use while shopping include:
1. Price matching.
This is an absolute lifesaver living in Hawaii. Our stores often mark up prices on items due to shipping things to the island, so when I see something is cheaper online (I’ve gotten things up to $100 cheaper!!!) I haul my goods right on over to the service counter and they save me money with a smile on their faces.
2. Competitor Ads.
Along the same lines as #1, Target will price match competitor stores! Ding ding bonus.
3. Deciphering Markdowns.
I LOVE the markdown items at Target. Seriously, nothing makes me more giddy than seeing the bright red tag. If the price tag ends in $0.06 or $0.08 — don’t buy it yet! It will be marked down again. You can always tell how much an item has been marked down by the tiny number in the top right corner of the red clearance tag.
4. Special Markdown Days.
Need some jewelry? Wait until Saturday! Target has a pretty strict schedule for when they mark down items. It is:
Monday: Electronics, Accessories, Kid’s Clothes, Books, Baby and Stationery
Tuesday: Domestic items, Women’s Clothes, Pets and Market (food)
Wednesday: Men’s Clothes, Health, Beauty, Diapers, Lawn & Garden and Furniture
Thursday: Housewares, Shoes, Toys, Sporting Goods, Decor and Luggage
Friday: Auto, Cosmetics, Hardware and Jewelry
5. The REDCard.
And finally, my favorite thing about Target…the REDCard! Not only do you save 5% off purchases (and free shipping to Hawaii..cowabunga baby), but you get an extra 30 days to return merchandise you decide you don’t want!
And there you have it– my 5 favorite Target shopping hacks. Did I miss your favorite?
