I teased yesterday that we visited Breakout Waikiki over the weekend and today — I’ve got a full recap! If you’ve ever been interested in escape room challenges or have heard a promo for Breakout Waikiki that piqued your interest, I’m sharing all the details today, so you can decided whether or not booking an escape room in Waikiki is for you! A couple people have asked if Breakout Waikiki is on Groupon and I think sometimes it is, so be sure to keep that in mind and check prior to booking! Now, let’s chat all there is to know about booking an escape room at Breakout Waikiki in Honolulu.
Breakout Waikiki
An escape room sounds really horrifying, right? Well, when Breakout Waikiki invited Dane and I to come test out their escape rooms — I was ALL IN! We had done an escape room on our trip to Thailand with a company called Escapology and loved it. Working together to get ourselves out of a room designed to make us feel like we were kidnapped on a slave ship was, in a word, awesome. We were able to break all the locks and crack the code to escape in record time!
Yes we dressed alike and no, it was not planned. |
The basic concept behind this company is simple — you have 60 minutes to break out of a locked room with your teammates. It’s a live-action escape game and YOU are the center of the puzzle.
Breakout Waikiki has multiple rooms to choose from, but Dane and I ultimately chose Room 13, where the theme was waking up in a hotel room alone. It was FREAKY and awesome. Honestly, you don’t have to prep at all for this type of experience, it’s all about problem solving and critical thinking — definitely a workout for your mind!
You might be sitting here reading going…WAIT, WHAT DO YOU MEAN I’M LOCKED IN A ROOM?! HOW LONG DOES THIS LAST?! Thankfully, the amazing people over at Breakout Waikiki have already thought of these things and provided a little Q+A for all of you 🙂
BREAKOUT WAIKIKI FAQ
Am I really going to be locked in a room?
The short answer is no; that doesn’t sound safe or legal! You will be in a room with a locked door, but it is equipped with an exit button and you are free to leave the room at any time. Of course, leaving the room early disqualifies any record times, but we believe safety comes first!
How many people play? Is there an age/size/ability/mobility limit?
Each room has a minimum of 2-4 players but the more people you have on your team, the more your chances increase of breaking out! The maximum number is 8 players. Players 14 and under should be accompanied by an adult. All rooms are ADA accessible.
Can I book with my friends or family? Can I add people to my reservation?
Of course! We suggest one person book the slots for your entire group when booking online. Every reservation is private so it will only be your friends and family working together to breakout. You can also add more people to your booking when you arrive to our location.
Can you accommodate larger parties and events?
Absolutely! You can either book through our main booking page, or email us directly to rent our facility for your large party or corporate event. Email us at info@breakoutwaikiki.com for a custom quote.
How long is each game?
Each game is 60 minutes, though we ask you to arrive 20 minutes prior to your experience for preparation and 5 minutes after to debrief and take pictures to commemorate your victory (or defeat!)
If I’ve done a room, can I do the same room again or will it be the same?
The room and the puzzles will be the same, but if you’d like to accompany a group of friends on their adventure, you’re more than welcome to. We simply ask that you be considerate of your fellow guests and allow them to enjoy the puzzles as you did! It is important to note that any groups containing previous attendees will not be eligible to set records.
Ultimately, WE DID NOT ESCAPE! We were one clue away from being freed when our timer went off and I’ll admit — we were both kind of like DAMMIT! We had worked so hard for our entire 60-minute time and when we figured out the last clue, it was too late.
Even though we didn’t win, we had SO MUCH FUN. Seriously. You might have noticed we look a little tired and that’s because we did out escape first thing on a Sunday morning, but not even being a bit sleepy could hold us back. We left Breakout Waikiki feeling energized and already planning our next escape. Next time, we plan on bringing more people into the room with us for a better chance of escape 🙂
