I have a confession for all of you….I cannot stop myself from buying red, white and blue paraphernalia. Whether I’m looking at clothing, accessories or decor, I just can’t help myself! So, it should come as no surprise to any of you that when I saw M&M’s® Red, White, & Blue products at Walmart — I stocked up. In fact, it didn’t just stop at M&M’s® — I bought Skittles®, too. Mostly because they are one of my favorite candies and one must have fuel while shopping. Right? Right.
This summer, Walmart is honoring our nation’s military with a “1 For You, 1 For The Troops” campaign in stores across the country. At select locations near military installations, representatives will be sharing more information about this awesome initiative. Did you know M&M’s® were originally created for the troops? Keep the tradition going and buy M&M’s® (and other red, white & blue products from MARS) at Walmart or Walmart.com.
I love nothing more than being able to support our friends that are currently deployed or overseas. When Dane was deployed, he often told me that the highlight of his week was when he had a care package from home.
One of the things I always put into his packages (besides love notes) was a homemade baked good. He says that his favorite was a toss-up between my mom’s sugar cookies and these crispy, marshmallowy bars.
You Will Need:
6 cups crispy rice cereal
1 bag marshmallows
2 tbsp. butter
1 cup M&M’s® Red, White, & Blue Milk Chocolate
2 SNICKERS® bars, chopped
1. In a large pot, melt butter and marshmallows until the marshmallow is liquified.
2. Add in crispy rice cereal.
3. Fold in M&M’s® and SNICKERS® bits.
4. Spread evenly onto a baking sheet and allow to cool.
5. When cooled, you can use a cookie cutter to create shapes or simply cut them into squares.
6. Enjoy!
If you intend to mail your treats overseas, I would recommend wrapping each bite/bar individually in wax paper and sealing them tightly in a Ziploc bag prior to shipping. One thing that I love about using M&M’s® when I’m mailing things overseas as opposed to regular chocolate chips is that the candy coating helps to keep it from becoming one big melted mess. After all the treats are in Ziploc bags, I seal them in an airtight container to keep them fresh longer. If I choose to use M&M’s® Peanut, I always label the container for those that may have a nut allergy. Often care packages are shared with others so I would never want to cause any unintended harm to those who are already doing so much for our country.
