A Trip To The Gettysburg Daylilies and Peafowl Farm

Travel, USA · August 22, 2016 · 5 Comments

Over the weekend, Dane and I had a chance to see some of our really good friends who live in Texas. They were visiting their parents who happen to live right down the highway from my parents, which is always a special treat when we are all in town together. Said parents also happen to be the owners of a peacock farm. Say whaaat? I know, how cool, right?

Visiting Gettysburg Daylilies and Peafowl

Before we took a tour of all the pretty birds, his mom made us some peacock-tails. When you hold them up to the light, they are purple, blue and turquoise-y green — just like peacock feathers. It’s really just a very fruity mojito, but I love the creativity.
With cocktails in hand, it was time to tour the farm!

These are the baby peacocks. These little guys were born in May and are just now getting ready to be released into the big pen at the farm. For now, they have nice accommodations in the chicken coop.

And these extra tiny guys were born in June.
They don’t even have color yet. Peacocks are all born yellow/white/brown and develop their coloring as they mature.

How majestic looking are these two?

He was cawing like a maniac! This photo makes me laugh so hard, because he was mid-squawk!

It’s the end of the mating season and this guy was the only one left with a tail, so I tried to capture as much of him as I could. He seemed to really love the beep of my camera, which made it kind of easy!

Isn’t that last photo dreamy? I could totally live there!
How was your weekend?
