Our Staycation At The Surfjack Hotel

Ever since The Surfjack debuted in Waikiki, I have been telling Dane how badly I wanted to stay there. So, for my birthday weekend, he figured it would be terrific timing. After my surprise party, when he added that we were going “away” for the weekend, I was PUMPED! He really outdid himself this year! Here is a peek at our staycation at The Surfjack in Waikiki Beach. The Surfjack calls itself a “swell little spot” in Waikiki and I think that’s putting it lightly. Upon entering, you’re immediately taken back to “old Hawaii” – think bright colors and retro details. If you ever watched Man Men or Swingtown, you’ll know what I’m talking about. They really left no stone unturned when it came to making sure that every single detail was covered.

We reserved a one bedroom room, but were upgraded to a suite for my birthday, which was super nice! If you’re planning a trip or simply want some eye candy, today’s post detailing our stay at The Surfjack Hotel is for you 🙂

Our Stay At The Surfjack Hotel

We spent the first full day lounging by the pool. Dane and I both said that we can’t remember a time that we relaxed for 7 straight hours with minimal interruptions and just chatted, read and napped. It was glorious! I started and finished Behind Closed Doors (HIGHLY RECOMMEND) in one afternoon and enjoyed plenty of iced coffee, vodka sodas and sunshine.

While we were getting ready for dinner, we got a knock at the door and the staff had sent up a bottle of champagne for us to enjoy for my birthday!

I love little touches like that and we enjoyed a few glasses each before heading out on the town for dinner at Tommy Bahama. I know what you’re thinking – TOMMY BAHAMA?! But  honestly – the food is delicious and the ambiance is fantastic. It’s rarely crowded, too, which is a nice added bonus!

Sunday we SLEPT IN. There was something about the blackout curtains and air conditioning after a full day of being in the sun that sent us into a tropical state of slumbering bliss. I’ll be honest – 8AM was sleeping in for us, so when we did finally drag ourselves from bed (and watching NFL Network), we headed down for a poolside breakfast at Mahina + Suns with endless coffee. This may have been the first time I stayed at The Surfjack, but it definitely won’t be my last! If you’re local, they often offer Kama’aina rates, so be sure to look into that.

What To Know Before You Stay at The Surfjack Hotel

Grab coffee from Olive&Oliver boutique and enjoy it from one of their iconic pink pineapple cups!

Eat dinner, lunch, breakfast (basically any and all meals) at Mahina & Sun’s – owned by Ed Kenney of Town & Mud Hen Water…SO GOOD!

Snag a spot by the pool early – it fills up!

Each week, The Surfjack offers a full list of things to do and local offerings in house, so be sure to check that out. They’re posted by the pool and in the elevator.

We stayed on the ninth floor, which is arguably the best spot to grab a snapshot of their famed “Wish You Were Here” pool.

The resort fee ($25 per day) includes use of board games and bikes to cruise easily to the beach or to the heart of Waikiki. Plus, free coffee each morning!
