Currently

I always miss the boat on linking up with Anne for her Currently series. Well, that changes today! When she announced it last month, I was sure to make a note on my calendar so I could show up today and share a little sneak peek into my “currently”, so let’s do the darn thing!

Realizing: When the clock struck midnight on December 31, 2016, we had no freaking clue what was in store for us in 2017. We could never have imagined the way life would shift with the buying of a house and everything that led up to eventually having to sell it just 9 short months later. It was insanity (and I feel like even the word insanity is putting it lightly…). At every turn, we found ourselves asking the powers that be “WHY?!”. Though we don’t have all the answers (and probably never will), some of the realizations that we did make were pretty hard to deny. Coupled with our recent trip to the mainland, I think Dane and I both would agree that living closer to family and friends is a major priority for us sooner rather than later.

Stirring: Oh, I’m totally stirring up some delicious fall recipes! I can’t stop thinking about all things pumpkin and we ate the most delicious fall treats while we visited our family and friends all over the East Coast. I’ve got pumpkin roll on deck for the weekend! Sadly, we won’t be around for Thanksgiving this year, so I’m also planning mini Thanksgiving for Dane and I after we get home from Tahiti the first week of December. Any tips for Thanksgiving-for-two?!

Appreciating: EVERYTHING! I spent a lot of time earlier this year being resentful and just plain unhappy. We had some shit cards delivered this year and it wore me down in a way I wasn’t expecting. I am so happy for the holidays and all the joy that they bring and obviously looking forward to a fresh slate in 2018, but I’ll be honest…I’m starting now. In the words of the Goo Goo Dolls from Better Days, “Tonight’s the night the world begins again…”

Investigating: Does anyone else fall into the trap of seeing a Dateline special and then just craving more and more on that story? All the sordid details?! I jokingly call myself an armchair detective, because once I fall down a hole, I’m staying there! Has anyone else seen the Laci Peterson special on A&E. I believe it’s a 6 part episode series, but even THAT was not enough for me, so I’ve succumbed to the weird hallways of internet forums. Don’t ask, people. It’s probably considered a disease by some.

Following: I can’t get enough of holiday sales and from now until the end of the year it’s like a one-way ticket to sales and specials at all your favorite stores. Furniture to appliances, clothing to electronic gadgets…everything is freaking on sale! I just picked up a new GoPro HERO 5 after seeing it on special and getting it price matched – such a good technique for any of you early holiday shoppers. Price matching has become my BFF since moving to Hawaii. Most stores these days will do it and I always, always, always price compare with Amazon!
