It’s been awhile since I did a day in the life post. In fact, I think I’ve only ever done one other one (you can read it here), but it was so popular that I figured I would put another one together and took photos one day. I’ll be honest – it’s kind of hard for me to remember to pull photos from my day on a consistent basis. I’m much better about snapping photos periodically throughout the week, but I really wanted to put this post together, so here we are. I took photos on Thursday, March 22nd and there was no rhyme or reason as to why I chose that day other than I knew I had this post in the works so I plucked a random day.
I woke up at 5:15AM, because I was hopping on my monthly call with Erica and Chelsea to talk blogging, strategy and life. It’s so, so important to surround yourself with fellow industry professionals who you aren’t afraid to be yourself around and you can bounce ideas off of, share your successes and failures, etc. Seriously. Forming this little powerhouse tribe with them has rewarded me in so many ways both professionally and personally. And in this photo you can also see the e-mails I need to sort through…yikes!
Our call was around 60 minutes, but it set me up perfectly to catch this beautiful sunrise. Hawaii sunrises have been on fire recently and I was so happy to be able to sip some coffee and enjoy this view out of my office window.
It wasn’t even daylight yet and I felt like I had cranked out so much work. Though in full disclosure, we had watched “Get Out” (I finally worked up the nerve to watch it all the way through) and I was really eager for daylight. The movie is an absolute must watch, but it left me feeling on edge and a little bit jumpy. I was glad to see the sun when it finally did rise, even though it gave way to more cloudy skies. Have I mentioned how sick I am of consistent white skies?! Get it together Oahu! Since the overcast skies create a perfect running environment, I decided that instead of waiting until lunch, I would get my workout out of the way early.
I will never get tired of seeing these pretty plumeria flowers on my running path. They certainly brighten up even the cloudiest days!
Once I got back home, I didn’t shower right away. I know it’s so gross, but honestly I feel like if I showered I would want to get in bed, so I headed right back up to my desk to get some more work done. I feel most energized in the morning hours (before that wall hits later in the day), so I needed to take full advantage. I mean – did you see those e-mails from earlier?! So I sat down and wound up working straight through from 9:30-3:22. YEEEK! That is some seriously butt kicking. But get a load of this desk situation…One day I dream of having a desk big enough to sort my mess, but for now it is explosion city. #lifeunfiltered (PS – can you spot Judy and her stuffed baby snoozing under there?)
On this particular day, my work day consisted of a lot of photo editing, some journaling, powering through a writing project I had been neglecting (REAL TALK) and letting the dogs in and out. They love this cloudy, cool weather we’ve been experiencing so laying in the yard is top priority for them. Our fence situation is flimsy, so I don’t like to leave them out there unattended for any length of time, so getting up and down to let them in/out is a staple in my day. It’s probably also good for me to take breaks from staring at that big ol’ screen.
I’ve been making a conscious effort to put my phone away once Dane gets home, so I snapped a little bit of our dinner (sweet potatoes on mixed greens) over on Instagram stories, we took the dogs for a walk and then we called it a night. These early mornings have been kicking our butts recently, so making it a priority to get in bed right at 8:30 (yep – no shame) has helped a little bit! Whew! I’m a little bit tired just re-reading this over again, but I know I’ll be grateful down the road when I have these types of posts to look back on.
