Happy Saturday, everyone! I hope you’re all having the very best day! I wanted to pop in quickly today to share a few lovely ladies whose work deserves fanfare, celebration and just general applause. Not only are they all incredibly successful female business owners, they are all artists who use their talents and mediums to bring Hawaiian dreams to life. Once I show you some examples, you’ll see what I mean. I’ve met all of these beauties in person and not only are they talented – they’re kind to boot! So whether you’re in the market for something fresh for your home or just want to feel a little bit inspired, take a peek at these 4 Hawaii-based artists I’m crushing on.
Loving Lately – Female Artist Edition
Kim Sielbeck – Her bio reads: “Kim is an illustrator, painter, and surface designer. She was born in Alaska, and moved all around the U.S. in a Coast Guard family. Kim was greatly influenced by her few years living in Hawaii as a child, and recently moved back after eleven years in New York City.” She’s worked with Pepsi, Capital One, Buzzfeed any many, many more. Her artwork is colorful, whimsical and never ceases to put a stupid-happy grin on my face! Shop her work here.
Mariko Merritt – Her bio reads: “Mariko works in Honolulu as an artist, illustrator and graphic designer, and creates whimsical Hawaii- and nature-inspired ceramics and greeting cards for her line, Beachcake. Mariko studied graphic design at Rhode Island School of Design.” I first discovered Mariko’s work at Sugarcane in Kaimuki + it’s been a love affair ever since. Her ceramic figurines are colorful and make the best stocking stuffers, gal pal gifts or a fun just-because treat for yourself 🙂 Aside from her adorable ceramics, she’s the illustrator behind several adorable children’s books, so if you want to treat any of the kids in your life to some brilliant pops of color, check them out! I’ve gifted her books to several expectant friends. Shop her work here.
Sarah Caudle – Her bio reads: “Sarah Caudle is a Hawaii-based abstract and seascape artist who creates a visual escape to paradise for others to find a sense of peace, happiness, and aloha. Inspired by nature and the sea, she depicts the beauty of Hawaii through dynamic colors, fluid movements, and organic compositions. Using acrylics and resin on wood panel, each original painting is completely unique and full of depth. As light reflects off the glassy surface of the resin, the complexities of the multi-layers are revealed, conveying a sense of wonder.” I actually was introduced to Sarah + her work by Kim (above)! Now when I see her beautiful artwork pop up, it’s like an instant serenity trip – how can you not feel relaxed looking at those soft blues inspired by the calming salt water that surrounds us here on Oahu?! Lauren Roth – Her bio reads: “Hawaii based artist and graphic designer, Lauren Roth, has been creating for as long as she can remember. Her artwork is a unique combination of watercolor, acrylic, ink, and paint markers. Dreamy colors and organic shapes, layered on textured surfaces, invite the viewer to explore her intricate interpretations of life, where one quickly discovers the labor of love Lauren puts into each piece she creates.” I discovered Lauren’s work while shopping at Nordstrom here on Oahu and then discovered she’s also a born and bred East-coaster like myself – what’s not to love? Her eye for detail and infusing color into everything that she does is her secret weapon and one that shines in all that she creates – everything from prints to totes, clutches to t-shirts and beyond. Most recently, she was painting handbags at Kate Spade (how cool right?) and I got to give her a big hug and tell her just how much I love her designs! Shop her work here.
In these showstoppers, I hope you’ve found some beautiful new artists to love, designs to add to your wishlist and some inspiring new gals to follow on Instagram.
