Okay – so let’s just address the giant elephant in the room…I know this is a weird post topic. I get it. That said – my journal prompts have been making me think in so many ways lately and so here we are – me bringing the prompt here and writing a blog post about what my death row meal would be. It’s a topic that creeps me out to no end, but it really does make me think, which, I suppose, is the whole point of journaling. In any case…here we go. I’ll be honest – when I first saw the prompt I thought…that’s too easy, chips and guacamole. Except the more I thought about it, the more I was like – this is kind of hard!
Let’s get the easy one out of the way – a glass of champagne and a blood orange margarita. That’s what I’ll be drinking and I don’t even have to think twice about it.
My appetizer would obviously be my first initial thought – chips and guacamole. But good guacamole. Like the kind that nicer restaurants come to your table to prepare, not the kind that comes in a pre-made pouch from the grocery store that is smooth with no avocado chunks. And Siete Chips, forever and ever, amen.
Moving right along to my main course – it’s honestly a toss up for me. I ate Brussel sprout tacos on New Year’s Eve that I haven’t stopped dreaming about, but my mom also makes this incredible tortellini and peas with a cream sauce dish that has been my favorite since I was a child. So maybe a little of each of those? But then I think about how much I love a well-prepared salmon dish, particularly when the ends are a little bit crispy. Do we think they are bringing in Michelin-starred chefs for these meals? If so – a side of salmon, please, with wasabi sauce.
And I can’t forget dessert, because it’s my favorite food group. This one is tricky, because I love all desserts (except things with fruit because let me be clear – FRUIT IS NOT DESSERT). Okay, whew, now that we have that covered. I would probably go with peanut butter cheesecake and chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream with one piece of cookies and cream fudge.
After I got this prompt, I started researching death row meals and it gave me a lot of mixed emotions, but it’s definitely fascinating if you are intrigued by that sort of thing. One of the more interesting things I stumbled across was this photo series that was done by Henry Hargreaves called “No Seconds”. It’s worth a peek if you are interested. Okay so now that I’ve shared mine, what would you order?
