Happy Monday, everyone! Our weekend seemed to fly by at record speed. Doesn’t that always happen? We knew that it was jam packed with a dinner date, Army ball and a quick work trip to Maui, so the speed at which it came and went shouldn’t surprise me at all. In any case, we had a fun few days together doing the majority of our favorite things, so I figured I would share the highlights here for anyone who is interested ๐ I kicked off the weekend with this delicious acai smoothie and enjoyed it while watching the dogs play outside. The best kind of way to start the weekend if you ask me!Friday night we grabbed Thai food with friends of ours who will be leaving the island this summer. It always makes me so sad when people we’ve grown to love move on, but I’m so happy for them. The food was delicious and the conversation was better. So good, in fact, that I didn’t snap a single photo ๐ But it was a great night out, despite it being unseasonably chilly. In the 50s for Hawaii is pretty dang “cold”! Saturday morning I woke up early and couldn’t fall back asleep, so I decided to get in a good workout. I’m so glad I did, because when I got back, I snapped this view from my office window. A freaking beautiful sunrise that I would have missed had I not been up and moving. I see you, God, showing me your beauty!ย When Dane woke up, we enjoyed some coffee outside with both dogs, gave them both a thorough brushing (this brush is amazing for any fellow dog parents) and just relaxed. It was nice to start the morning out slow. After we had coffee, we went for a long walk around our neighborhood and then down by the water. We love trying to fit these in on the weekends, because it’s a great time to just chat and catch up since sometimes during the week we have a lot going on and are distracted. We got home and I whipped up some garlic potatoes, poached eggs and avocado. This is easily one of our favorite weekend breakfasts! So quick, easy and delicious.ย Dane had to head into work, so I used the afternoon to catch up on a little bit of cleaning around the house, editing and a freaking nap. It was glorious. I don’t remember the last time I’ve been able to lay down and actually fall asleep, but it happened and I really wish now that it happened more frequently..ha! That night, we were headed to a military ball for Dane’s unit and it was a fun excuse to dress up ๐ While I had every intention of re-wearing the red dress I wore to our last ball, I tried it on last week and I’ve lost some weight, so the straps sagged and made the whole dress look….weird. So, I re-wore the blush colored dress from my friend Kate’s fall wedding and it worked out really well! I initially wasn’t thrilled about it (I like wearing red dresses to balls), but I was happy to have a perfectly wonderful backup and pleased I didn’t have to spend money. Total win! We had a super duper early flight to Maui Sunday morning, so no craziness at the ball. In fact, the dinner/speeches portion went so long that we only got a tiny bit of dancing in before calling it a night and heading home. It’s safe to say everyone else well there well beyond midnight! Our alarms were set for 4:30AM – yawn! – but we got to see the sunrise from the air, which was pretty cool! I’m not able to reveal the project I’m working on yet, but it was really fun being able to island hop for the day and see some friends while we were there. Of course, it never hurts to start the day with donuts either ๐ We got back to Oahu around 4:30 on Sunday kind of ready to fall into bed immediately, but we still needed to meal prep for the week and the dogs were, of course, feeling a little crazy. Our sweet neighbor helped us by letting them out a few times while we were gone, but they are used to getting nonstop attention and they went buck wild as soon as we got home. Hawaii doesn’t participate in daylight savings, so I have no excuse for being wiped out other than our weekend was jam packed in the best possible way.
