Happy Friday and Happy June! Holy crap – is it me or is this year just flying by. I honestly feel like we were just getting through Valentine’s Day and now here we are freaking kicking off summer. Dang. In any case, I welcome summer with open arms, because it just seems like everyone is in a happier mood and we all could use a little more of that. The past week or so has been jam packed here starting with last Friday – I got my hair cut and colored! If you’ve been around here for any length of time you know that’s a huge freaking deal. I got an incredibly subtle baylage and I really love it. I also had a good bit of hair cut off and it feels so light now! Safe to say it was worth the time spent in the hair chair!
I seriously had no idea that hair cuts and colors took so long – my girl Ashlee even brought me a delicious almond milk cappuccino while things were happening. So delicious! I snapped this photo to send to Dane before I drove home!
We had plans that night to head out to a new (to us) restaurant for dinner and drinks and I was so excited. Once every few months, we take turns planning a date night surprise that can be anything, but this time it was dinner and drinks and I was pretty surprised. It was a total bonus that the food (homemade pasta) was super tasty and so were the drinks. We also ordered the burrata, but admittedly it wasn’t great. Oh well!
2. Saturday the weather was still kind of crappy here on Oahu (is this the new normal?!), so we did a little shopping. Dane scored some great stuff at J. Crew (I shared it here) and I had fun browsing all the newest stuff for summer at various stores. Speaking of – can we talk about this basket bag?!
I definitely loved the Cult Gaia design as soon as I saw it last summer, but never ordered one, because I just couldn’t justify the price per use. That said – this dupe is only $35, which is a total win in my mind! If you love it like I do, snag one before they sell out.
3. We woke up on Sunday and it wasn’t drizzling, which was an exciting development, so we packed the dogs in the car before the sun rose and headed to the opposite side of the island. There is a great beach on that side that hardly ever has people on it (particularly really early in the morning), so we wanted to give them a chance to enjoy the beach. I’ve said it 500 times and I’m not done yet – the weather has been terrible here, so any chance of anyone enjoying the beach has been low. It drizzled on us a little bit, but the sun peeked out for a brief moment! It was super exciting for everyone and Dane got out the drone to snag a couple shots of us all playing together. Safe to say Judy + Bill had no clue what to think about the drone, barked like crazy and then went back to playing. I think we spent nearly 2 hours throwing their favorite water toy into the waves and having them bring it back before they got tired. Labrador Retrievers have so much energy that sometimes I wish they could loan it to me…
4. I don’t know what it is about dreary weather that just makes me want some kind of comfort food, but that’s just the way it is! Even though it’s been muggy as sin, the clouds keep me in a constant state of wanting carbs, so Sunday for dinner I whipped up some homemade pasta with the delicious truffle sauce I brought home from Italy (similar truffle product here). I made a huge batch – enough for us and our neighbors – and it’s safe to say we all enjoyed it. Find my homemade pasta recipe here.
5. Since Monday was a holiday, we decided to check out a really cool speakeasy in town that we just recently heard about. We made a reservation with a few friends of ours and headed out for a night of stepping back in time. In fact, a few hours before our reservation, they sent us a text with our password for the night to get in. It was a cute little spot (definitely a lot of character), but it was pretty pricey, so I’m not sure if we will go back or not. And yes – that is a skull! LOL
Whew! I feel like I could go on and on and on about what else has been going on, but I’ll wrap this up. I think it’s just this particular season of life is kind of hectic for us right now, but I’m totally okay with that. It just makes for some long weeks 🙂 So tell me, how was your week? Have you ever been to a speakeasy? And baylage hair – am I a decade late to this trend? For easy reference, I’ve linked some of the items seen in this post below!
