6 Best Easy Hikes On Oahu

Hawaii, Oahu, Travel · June 13, 2018 · Leave a Comment

Looking for the best easy hikes on Oahu? Here are 6 hikes on the island of Oahu that are fun and easy for hikers of all skill levels.

Let me be honest for a second – before I moved to Hawaii, hiking was not on my list of “activities I enjoy”. It’s kind of crazy that 6 years later, I’m kind of in love with it. There’s something really awesome about heading out for the day on an adventure that promises to be a workout, PLUS offer some fantastic views!

That said, I didn’t always feel this way and when I first started hiking, I wanted something simple, not super strenuous. Today I’m sharing 6 easy hikes on Oahu that I’ve conquered and promise – you can too! These are some of the best hikes on Oahu, so whether you’re planning a trip or living here permanently, these easy hikes are perfect for those that want just a little bit of adventure ๐Ÿ™‚

Before we get started, I wanted to point out that you can always look at AllTrails for a great 360-guide on any hike. I get a lot of my information there ๐Ÿ™‚

Lanikai Pillbox Hike – Easily one of my very favorite on the island for the views alone, definitely hit this one for sunrise if you can! The pastel skies will leave you absolutely speechless and once the sun rises, you’ll be able to see all the shades of turquoise in the water.

Pink Pillbox Hike – The reward at the top of this quick hike is a pretty pink pillbox where you can sit and watch the waves or (in the winter months) spot whales! Be sure to heed the warning in my original post (linked) about the parking and bring your camera with you for fun pillbox photos ๐Ÿ™‚

Kolekole Pass (military only) – Unfortunately this hike is authorized only for military personnel and their families (it requires a military ID to get onto Schofield Barracks), but if you have access, absolutely check it out! More of a walk than a hike, it’s perfect for the entire family and grabbing a seat on the bench provides an amazing breeze and spectacular views! The below photo is old, but I kind of love it, because it shows just how far I’ve come on my hiking/fitness journey!

Oahu Hiking Trails

Pele’s Chair – Dane and I trekked this at sunrise and it was beautiful. Since, we’ve been back a few times (at differing times and seasons) and I can still say sunrise was the prettiest one! That said – be sure to wear sneakers with good tread, since it’s pretty rocky!

Pu’u O Mahuka Heiau State Monument – Another hike that is more of a walk, the history behind this trek is the real draw. Plus, you can see Waimea Bay and on a clear day it’s fantastic for watching surfers.

Diamond Head Crater – After combing this blog I realized – I don’t have a post for this one. GAH! How could it be? Maybe that’s because this iconic hike is truly a must on Oahu and everyone from here to Big Island has written about it. You can’t come to Honolulu and not summit Diamond Head Crater! It’s synonymous with the Honolulu skyline and offers panoramic ocean views. Definitely give it a go! But fair warning: You have to pay to park if you use the lot at the base of the hike.
