Happy (almost) Amazon Prime Day, friends! If you’ve been around here for any length of time, you know that Amazon Prime is LIFE for anyone who lives here in Hawaii like me. I’ve ordered everything from clothes to travel essentials, dog toys to camera gear thanks to the free two-day shipping deal (to note: it takes longer than 2 days in Hawaii, but the free shipping is well worth it, regardless of timing!). Having an Amazon Prime membership has changed the game for us here in terms of shipping, but it’s also amazing for groceries, photo storage, streaming and free Audible downloads. And — if you haven’t heard, Amazon bought Whole Foods, which just made shopping at the grocery store a little bit more affordable for us, too! So, let’s chat about Amazon Prime Day 2018, which is right around the corner…Monday, July 16th!
Everything You Need To Know About Amazon Prime Day
First things first – you need an Amazon Prime account to shop so make sure to sign up for one of those before Prime Day goes down! Signing up for a Prime membership works out to about $12 per month (the first 30 days are free if you want to give it a test drive!), or if you’re a student you can get 6 months free! In my mind, it’s worth it just based on the book orders I place alone, not to mention all the other goodies you can find. Another important thing to note is that sometimes Amazon puts Prime memberships on sale before Prime Day goes down (that’s how we signed up several years back) and we’ve been hooked ever since.
So what is Amazon Prime Day? Amazon Prime Day began in 2015 as a way to celebrate the company’s 20th anniversary. Fast forward to every year since and Amazon has thrown an epic online party in the form of sales in the weeks leading up to the day and culminating with a big day of fun on the actual “Prime Day”. This year, Prime Day falls on Monday July 16th at 3PM EST and is lasting a full day…plus some! Amazon announced earlier this month that the sale would last 36 hours this year. More time to shop and save!
What should I expect? Deals, deals and more deals. Seriously – this is your time to stock up on camera gear, pulling the trigger on a drone you’ve had your eye on (all about our drone + gear here), furniture, TVs, and more. Also, Amazon-only products like Tap, FireTV, Echo, etc. are all typically featured for one-time-only sales. If you’ve had your eye on Alexa, now is your time to capitalize!
Anything I should keep an eye out for?
Lightning Deals – Throughout the 36 hours Amazon Prime Day goes on, Lightning Deals (think short term flash sales) will be posted and I’ll be honest – they stress me out. I feel like they go SO quickly, but you can track items that are upcoming that you might be interested in purchasing here. That way, as soon as lightning strikes and the deal goes live – you can scoop it up!
Amazon Basics are 20% off which, to me, is one of the best parts of the whole dang day! In Amazon Basics you’ll find things that are best suited for everyday life – top quality products with an affordable price tag. I have no issue paying full price for any of these goods, so the extra 20% off is like sweet icing on the cake! My top picks in the Amazon Basics section include:
Laptop Sleeve | Velvet Hangers
It’s safe to say that it’s the season for amazing sales. Amazon Prime Day + early access to the Nordstrom sale falling within days of one another is not lost on people who love to score a great deal! I’ve linked below all my favorite Amazon buys and things that are on constant rotation at my house – bathroom, closet, pantry, etc. – and if you’ve been around this blog for awhile they will probably look pretty familiar!
