Try to say that title 5 times fast, would ya? Truth be told – I’ve been brainstorming this cocktail for awhile. A few months back, Smarties sent me a really fun package to enjoy for the summer. After I created my Sour Patch Kids drink around Halloween last year, I was jones-ing to create another candy cocktail. Inspired by the sweet taste of Smarties candies (they are a classic aren’t they?), I set out to create something sweet and light that is best enjoyed on a hot summer day. Though truth be told, I would shake this baby up in a tumbler any time of the year. The fun Smarties lollipop is a totally optional, but delightfully whimsical, garnish to offer to your guests, friends, spouse or self 🙂 Let’s get right to it and shake up something sweet…
Shaken Strawberry Lemonade Summer Cocktail
First things first – let’s address the star of this cocktail’s show – Rainbow Sherbet vodka. Is it me or is the quite possibly the best summer discovery there is? Maybe I’ve been under a rock, but this liquor takes me right back to the childhood favorite that is sherbet! What is better than that tri-colored frozen dessert?! I’ll wait… 😉
If you’ve ever looked at the Pinnacle brand of vodka, they actually make quite a few flavors that are fun for different cocktails and I saw some that inspired a few other drink ideas I have brewing. Is it a vodka I want to be ripping shots of on a night out? Maybe not, but let’s be honest – that ship has sailed for me anyhow 😉 Either way, the price point on it is good and for mixed cocktails I cannot complain on smoothness or flavor.
To recreate this cocktail in your own home, you will need:
1/2 shot strawberry syrup
1 shot lemonade
1 shot Rainbow Sherbet vodka
splash club soda (optional)
1. In a shaker filled with ice, combine strawberry syrup, lemonade and Rainbow Sherbet vodka.
2. Shake well.
3. Pour mixture over crushed ice into champagne glass.
4. Serve with optional club soda topper for fizz and garnish with a Smarties lollipop just for fun!
Whether you plan to whip this Shaken Strawberry Lemonade Summer Cocktail up with a Smarties garnish or not – I cannot say enough good things about how 1. easy it is to make or 2. how refreshed you will feel while drinking it. The tart of the lemonade mixed with the sweetness of the Strawberry syrup and the dash of tropical pizzazz from the Sherbet vodka is everything you never knew you needed in a summer cocktail.
