Happy Hump Day! I mean, do people really even say that anymore? LOL! Anyway, today is the 18th prompt of my September Blogging Challenge – I can’t even believe that. If you missed my blogging challenge announcement post, I’ve been feeling a little bit uninspired by blogging and social media and I wanted to bring it back to where it all began…little old me behind my keyboard tapping away. And so – that’s what is happening! I know there are “blog every day” challenges, but honestly – I don’t blog every day as it is, so committing to 30 days was intimidating for me. Instead, I put together 20 prompts that really inspired me and whipped up a list for when you can expect them here. Today’s prompt is my favorite hobbies and these have definitely changed over the years! Here’s what I like to do in my spare time and for fun…
My Favorite Hobbies
Reading – I love to read and I have ever since I was a little kid. My mom likes to tell the story about me begging to be taught to read, because I just wanted to learn so badly so I could read to myself (without someone having to read to me). If you’ve been around here for a good bit, you know that my favorite genre is psychological thrillers! I also really love going to the library when I have the time.
Baking – I love baking cakes, cookies, bars — whatever. Typically I do this as a stress reliever 🙂
Traveling – Well, this is probably really obvious, but we travel every chance we get! I feel really lucky to be married to someone who never hesitates to book a last minute flight somewhere and just go. I need that sense of spontaneity in my life, because I certainly don’t have it on my own!
Working out – Lately, I’m in a phase of wanting to try to new workouts that really test me and get me sweating in a way that isn’t just running, spinning, walking, etc. I am a huge fan of Glow Body PT on Youtube – she has the best free workouts!
Trying new recipes – My Pinterest boards are jammed full of recipes that I find, want to make and never get around to. This year, I’ve been making a really conscious effort to stop making the same things over and over again, and when I feel myself falling into that trap — I head to Pinterest and find something that inspires me. Cooking is my love language, but I also really love going to new restaurants or bars, bonus points if it’s a dive and I don’t have to get dressed up.
Playing ‘Would You Rather’ with Dane – Okay, this seems really silly and stupid, but we play this game more often than I care to admit – the more twisted, the better. For example, would you rather have to wake every morning and give yourself one paper cut on the eye or give yourself one paper cut between every toe?
Playing cards – I can still remember playing cards with my grandparents growing up and loving every second of it. We always take cards on trips, airplanes, and they’re the best on rainy Hawaii days.
YouTube makeup videos – Does anyone else get sucked into YouTube makeup videos, particularly the ones where they speed up the process and they go from normal person to celebrity in about 30 seconds? I am mesmerized every single time!
Planning imaginary parties – Okay this is the strangest one and I saved it for last. I love entertaining – love, love, love it. But we don’t really have a great house set-up at the moment for hosting guests or throwing parties, so I love to daydream about throwing elaborate dinner parties, surprise birthday parties, Sunday football parties — all kinds of parties. You see where this is going. I plan the food, the decor, who I would invite, etc.
