Happy Thursday! Yesterday I mentioned that Dane and I were hosting a dinner party and it was so much fun to finally make some recipes I had pinned, but didn’t have a true reason to make (not enough people, it felt too fancy for day-to-day). We chowed down on smashed potatoes, feta crusted salmon, loaded summer hummus, homemade garlic wonton chips, pumpkin banana bread and a gluten + dairy free version of the Momofuku Milk Bar layer cake. It’s nowhere near the level of Christina Tosi, but it sure was fun! The recipe needs tweaked a bit, but that’s an undertaking I’m willing to take on 😉 I didn’t take as many photos as I should have, but here are a few!
Today on the blog I’m back with day four of my September Blogging Challenge. If you missed my blogging challenge announcement post, I’ve been feeling a little bit uninspired by blogging and social media and I wanted to bring it back to where it all began…little old me behind my keyboard tapping away. And so – that’s what is happening! I know there are “blog every day” challenges, but honestly – I don’t blog every day as it is, so committing to 30 days was intimidating for me. Instead, I put together 20 prompts that really inspired me and whipped up a list for when you can expect them here. Today’s prompt in the challenge is to share what’s in my bag. Now, for anyone who might be linking up – this can be any bag! For me, personally, I’m sharing what’s in my day-to-day purse. I, quite literally, dumped it onto the floor and am now sharing the contents with you. It might be messy, but it’s real. Let’s take a peek…
What’s In My Bag
The short answer for what’s in my bag? A MESS. I carry my Longchamp day-to-day, so it’s big enough to carry around the things in my life that I feel the need to bring with me, as well as a catch all for the crap I accumulate (see also: receipts, flyers, pieces of gum I’ve wrapped in wrappers, etc). You see where this is going – messy. I so wish I was one of those people that had their purse in order at all times, but I’m just not. You’ll notice that I have a lot of “crap keepers” like mini pouches and bags that appear to make my purse seem organized, but rest assured — inside those mini pouches is chaos. Are you ready…
I am going to address the elephant in the room here right away and say – you aren’t seeing things. I have not one, not two, but three neon headbands in my purse. You just never know when you might need one and I am a huge fan. If you ever see me “in the wild”, I am probably wearing one! Though to be honest, I have no idea why there are 3 in there at the moment.
Two pairs of sunglasses, tucked neatly into their cases. My favorite pair of Ray-Bans (Tortoise polarized) and a delightful J.Crew pair are my go-tos at the moment.
A random Target receipt and two quarters. It’s actually kind of shocking I have rogue quarters in there, because usually it’s pennies or nickels.
Senna tablets are a natural way to help you go to the bathroom and I just bought a new bottle at Long’s for our upcoming travel. Hawaii banned plastic bags awhile ago, so when I forget my reusable tote, whatever I buy just goes in my purse. Note to self: Put that bottle in my suitcase.
COACH pillkeeper that is currently storing a mini version of my emergency bag – there is some Exedrin Migraine in there, peppermint essential oil and lemon essential oil.
I’ve shared my love of my waterproof, splash-proof pouch before, because if we are heading out to dinner, all of my must have items (credit card keeper, chapstick, lip gloss and I.D.) are in there. I can just leave my Longchamp in the car and grab that whimsical little pouch to head into the restaurant or bar. I did take a peek in there to see what junk had accumulated and there was a packet of Splenda, two pens, 7 pieces of change and a single dollar bill.
That folded up piece of paper is the inspection report we got on our loaner car that we are using for the time being while we figure out what the heck is wrong with our real car. Our car debacle is never-ending, I swear!
And finally – what would a purse be without some sort of camera accessory? That black ring you see is a lens hood for my Nikon. How or why it’s in my purse is beyond me.
If you shared what is in your bag, feel free to link up below + come back tomorrow for where I see myself in 10 years (one of my favorite prompts of the whole month!)
