New year, new face — let’s hope! For anyone who has been around here for a little bit, you might know that for the past 6-ish months I’ve been really struggling with my skin. I can’t pinpoint exactly when it happened, but over those months, my skin has morphed into something I don’t recognize anymore. I’m not sure if it’s the tempo of my travel schedule, the cold then hot temperatures my body has been experiencing or just me knocking on 30 (GULP), but I went from having a mixed (oily and dry) overall skin type to oil and acne. WHY?
In addition, a makeup mishap a few months back prompted me to take a bare-faced approach to my skin and to use Osmosis on the 3-4 days per month I wear makeup. It has worked well, but my skin still wasn’t back to the old skin I had grown to love and knew how to manage!
In October, I got my first HydraFacial from Honolulu Spa + Wellness and the treatment gave me signs of hope. This whole time, I had been telling my mom all my skincare woes that included skin redness, cystic acne, irritated skin patches that flaked (WTF) and just overall splotchy patches. It’s kind of hard to see it in photos, but trust me when I tell you – I was just plain uncomfortable with it.
Now let’s rewind a little bit. My mom has the prettiest skin I’ve ever seen in my life. I swear to you, she has never had a single procedure done and her face just freaking glows. She’s told me for years and years it’s because she stays out of the sun and invests in facials and good skincare products, but I’m also going to say she probably has a twitch of good genetics in there. Let me tell you – I might look like her, but I did not get that stroke of genetic good fortune.
So I am pretty sure that my mom was sick of listening to me complain about my skin, because as soon as I walked through the door at Christmas this year, she instructed me to wash my face with some new products and begin a regimen she had been using for a year. To be honest, my initial reaction was not to get my hopes up since everything I’ve tried (from dermatologist recommendations, to every shelf at Sephora, gentle formulas from a popular clean beauty brand and everything in between) has fallen flat. But then she showed me her before and afters and I choked on my tongue. Don’t worry, she gave me permission to post these before and after photos!
My New MŌDERE Skincare Regimen
All of the products are MŌDERE, a brand I only recognized because she had shared it with me during a trip home last fall for their anti-aging serum. Okay, so let’s talk about what I’m using. The first step is an exfoliating cleanse, followed by an infusion revival serum and finished off with a defense product I leave on. The specific regimen I’m using is MŌDERE I/D Anti-Aging System and the MŌDERE Exfoliating Cleanser.
Now before you ask – no, none of this is sponsored or paid or being gifted to me, it’s just me being desperate to find something that works for my face and gives me more confidence in my skin. During the time I was home with my mom, I did this routine several times and I’ve been doing it daily since.
My favorite step is the REVIVE infusion, because it tingles a little bit and foams up before settling into your skin. Something about the “action” of it, makes me feel like it’s really working. I know that sounds crazy – but I am who I am! To note, I am not all in on clean living (I’m trying!), but MŌDERE ingredients are all EWG certified, which I feel like is a step in the right direction for me.
I will warn you that it’s a bit of an investment ($108 for the I/D set and then $13 for the exfoliating cleanser). You can get $10 OFF your first order by using this referral code my mom gave to me.
The regimen lasts for 30 days, so I plan to check back in here with how it went/is going. In the meantime, I’m still avoiding wearing makeup, drinking lots of water, watching sugar/alcohol and just trying my best to stay out of the sun. Now let’s chat, have you ever heard of this company? Have you tried their products? When you turned 30 did your skin lose its shit?
Don’t miss my MŌDERE Skincare Regimen update!
