It’s been awhile since I did a day in the life post, so I took some time last week to spend an entire day snapping photos. I took a cue from Erica to document days like this at various points throughout the year as a way to look back and remember exactly what life was like in any given season. So, today I’m sharing snippets from my day, all taken with my iPhone (nothing fancy). If you want, you can read previous days: A Day In The Life from March 2018, A Day In The Life from September 2017. And now – onward!
A Day In The Life – February 2019
It was my morning to take care of the dogs, so around 5:00AM, I got out of bed so they would stop throwing themselves against the door. Dane is such a champ when it comes to feeding the dogs and letting them out in the morning that I only really do it 1 time per week, so I can’t complain. While the dogs eat, I make myself coffee.
The weather has been absolutely nuts on Oahu (lots of rain and wind), which makes our yard one giant mud puddle. Judy hates to get dirty, so it’s no problem when she comes inside, but Bill guns right for the mud and dirt, so he requires a paw wipe when he comes back inside. On this particular morning, it was one wipe per paw – UGH! Crazy muddy pup! As you can see, he wants to be inside with his sister 🙂
After I wiped Bill down, I took my coffee upstairs and checked my e-mail, read a few of my favorite blogs and sent off a few writing packages I had been working on. It’s a semi slow season for me and I’m not complaining. I also did two Glow Body PT workouts. I followed it up with a walk around our neighborhood. I don’t usually get my workouts in early, but I was having lunch with my neighbor so I knew I needed to squeeze it in.
When I came home, I did another thing I don’t normally do – I showered right away! LOL! I changed and got ready to head to La Tour (my favorite Hawaii quick-food) for lunch. Also, wearing makeup! This is a huge deal for me if you have been following my skincare journey. It only happens about once per month, but I was going out so I decided to put some on. 10/10 regret since the next day (and every day since) my face has been a nightmare.
I got home from lunch and checked the mail, where I had a sweet package waiting from my friend Dee Ruel. She is the sweetest and most talented jewelry maker and I cannot wait for our upcoming collaboration together.
I also got a poster frame I had ordered from Wayfair. I bought this print from an artist in Reykjavik during our trip to Iceland last fall at the insistence of my friend Casey who kept saying – Kait, it’s so you! And I’m very glad she was persistent, because I love it more now than I did then. Anyway, I needed a big frame and Wayfair didn’t disappoint.
At this point it was around 4:15 and Dane was on his way home, so I was trying to clean up the mess from the GIANT box Wayfair had sent the frame in, vacuum (it’s endless with two brown shed monsters) and get dinner started. Bill loves our sofa, so in the midst of all this, I found him cozied up in the pillows.
Dinner on this particular night was General Tso’s Cauliflower (never again), but I’m happy I tried it. We kept seeing it all over social media and people were raving about it, but it just wasn’t great (in our opinion), plus it was kind of labor intensive.
After dinner, we took the dogs on a quick stroll around the neighborhood, but cut it short because the wind was kicking up and we really wanted to finish The Assassination of Gianni Versace. Let me tell you – we finally did finish it and that show leaves a sick feeling in my stomach. I had to hide my eyes 70% of the time, because I just felt it was so gruesome! It also left me feeling jumpy, so I’m not sure how I feel about it as a whole. It’s by the same people who did the OJ Simpson series a few summers ago. We watched the last episode and headed to bed (we go to bed around 8PM!). By 8:30 we were fast asleep so we could get up the next day and do it all over again 🙂
