Frozen Jalapeno Lemonade

Drink, Food · May 9, 2019 · Leave a Comment

Summer temperatures are officially here! I think it’s safe to say that since it’s always fairly “hot” here in Hawaii, but I am pretty sure it’s warming up everywhere else (finally!), too. Summer means hot temps and the need for a refreshing cocktail recipe or a delicious mocktail recipe, right? Well, today I have the answer to your summer drink woes! Introducing…Frozen Jalapeño Lemonade! This refreshing frozen drink can be a cocktail or a mocktail. The sour punch of lemonade with a spicy jalapeño kick is my kind of summer treat. If you like drinks with a kick, today’s recipe is for you!

First things first – how do you get the jalapeño in the drink? For this, you need a jalapeño simple syrup. I made jalapeño simple syrup by using the recipe from Artful Dishes ahead of time. Not only was it easy, but it was delicious in this lemonade and I plan to use it for more cocktails this summer! The jalapeño you see in the photos is simply garnish and doesn’t add much (if any) jalapeño flavor, so the jalapeño simple syrup is crucial to getting that spicy kick into your drink recipe.

To note, I used homemade lemonade, but you could definitely use a powdered mix if you wanted! Just make sure you make your mix ahead of time and allow it to get settle and cold in the refrigerator prior to mixing up your drink.

Frozen Jalapeno Lemonade

To make this frozen jalapeño lemonade at home, you will need:

2 tbsp. white granulated sugar

1/4 cup hot water

4 tbsp. fresh squeezed lemon juice (I squeezed mine into a bowl first so I could make sure to remove seeds, pulp, etc)

3/4 cup cold water

1 tbsp. jalapeno simple syrup

1 cup ice

a blender

optional add in: 1 shot lemon vodka

1. In a shaker, add sugar and pour hot water on top. Shake until dissolved completely.

2. Add in lemon juice and cold water. Shake well.

3. Add in simple syrup (more if you like it really spicy!). Shake once or twice.

4. Pour shaker mixture into blender and add in 1 cup of ice.

5. Blend on high until mixture becomes slushy-consistency.

WARNING: DO NOT OVER-BLEND OR DRINK WILL BECOME WATERY!

Frozen Jalapeno Lemonade Cocktail

To make this drink into a cocktail, simply add in the shot of lemon vodka when you add in the simple syrup.

And then it’s time to enjoy! This recipe makes 1 good sized cocktail or mocktail and trust me when I say — you’re going to want more!
