If there is one thing Dane gets complimented on this most, it’s his sense of style. What can I say — the guy knows what he likes! I would categorize Dane’s style as classic and tropical. Neither of us shy away from color! Over the years, I’ve gotten a few questions from readers about where Dane buys certain pieces of clothing, but the large majority want to know — where is the best place to buy swim trunks? Anyone who has followed me knows that Dane loves a good pair of swim trunks, much like I love a good tassel. That said, finding quality mens swimwear can sometimes be a challenge, particularly if you wear them all the time like we do here in Hawaii ๐ Dane loves swimwear that is functional, colorful and durable and it should go without saying that he prefers short swim trunks. Today, I’m sharing his top picks for best men’s swim trunks that stand the test of time and are worth the cost!
Best Men’s Swim Trunks
Nordstrom – Nordstrom is Dane’s favorite spot for swim trunks, because they offer a variety. If he’s seeking plain colored swim trunks, he veers toward Patagonia and Topman. These two brands offer the best men’s short swim trunks in plain colors. If your guy likes brighter colors, Topman Swim Trunks is the way to go!
Chubbies – If short shorts in colorful prints are what you’re looking for, Chubbies is the answer. A brand that is trademarked by neon, bright colors, short hemlines and all-around comfort, Chubbies has so many designs to choose from — everything from Patriotic to tropical. To note – they’re made for all-day partying so they dry REALLY fast, meaning beach to bar in half the time ๐
J. Crew – For so many years, Dane has told me that J.Crew doesn’t make clothing that fit his muscular build properly. He lovingly joked he wasn’t tiny enough to fit into their clothes…until he tried their swimwear and his mind was changed. He’s now a J.Crew loyalist and it’s thanks in large part to his love of their swim trunks. They fit well, last, are lined, come with a closable pocket and have not faded through multiple years of use. His favorite is this blue pair with the bright orange tie.
Zara – Zara was not on Dane’s swim radar for a long time, but they have great swim trunks. Be warned – it takes a bit of trial and error since they are mostly European cut and run a bit more snug than usual. That said, they are mega affordable and stylish, particularly if you are a guy who enjoys slimmer cut, bright fabrics and funky prints.
Old Navy – Old Navy has come a long way in the swimwear game and while I’m not always totally in love with their “fast fashion”, their men’s swimwear is pretty good. Old Navy swim trunks are great for affordability! Dane is picky about length (he likes short swim trunks), but if you are more into board shorts or longer swim trunks, then definitely hit up Old Navy.
Vineyard Vines – Long before Vineyard Vines collaborated with Target and everyone knew who they were, Dane was wearing their swimsuits. Why? Because they last forever! Yes, they are an investment, but he’s had the same couple of pairs for more than 5 years now, wearing them repeatedly in the Hawaii sun/water without fading or rips. That is saying something! I’ve got my eye on this patriotic pair since I know Dane will get good use from it.
Link Soul – Dane was gifted a pair of these for his birthday and I swear – he never takes them off. While technically made for golf, they are mega wicking and comfortable so they’re perfect for water activities where you don’t really want to get wet, but it’s an option. Think: kayaking, boating or hiking around tide pools. Per Dane, “They are so freaking comfortable and the lining is super soft.”
