I went back and forth on whether or not to share this post and I really don’t know why. Maybe because part of me thinks there is still a stigma when it comes to CBD? Or maybe because people are judgmental about things they really don’t know about? I mean — the internet is a pretty big place! In any case, I’m here today to talk about CBD gummies. Specifically, my experience with CBD gummies.
An Honest CBD Gummies Review
First let’s talk about CBD and what it is, as well as what it is not. Before I start taking anything, I like to know all there is to know about a product, don’t you? I mean, I was going to be putting it in my body!
Let me make it very clear: I am not a doctor or medical professional. This is all information I’ve found in my own research and confirmed with my own doctor. If you are interested in using CBD products, I highly recommend doing your own research and consulting your own medical professional.
What is CBD?
“CBD stands for cannabidiol. It is the second most prevalent of the active ingredients of cannabis (marijuana). While CBD is an essential component of medical marijuana, it is derived directly from the hemp plant, which is a cousin of the marijuana plant. While CBD is a component of marijuana (one of hundreds), by itself it does not cause a ‘high’.” Source: Harvard Medical School
Why do people use CBD?
CBD oil can be used for many different reasons, but leading reasons include anxiety, chronic pain, trouble sleeping, and childhood epilepsy syndromes like Dravet Syndrome and LGS.
It’s important to note that while CBD can be taken to aid in helping the above, it is not a medication. It is extremely important to understand that, because while CBD is widely used, it is not regulated by the FDA. Because of this, it means that the world of CBD is a bit like the “wild wild west”, where some companies produce products that are pure and others are just trying to make a quick buck off consumers.
Is CBD legal?
It’s been ingrained in my head for years to steer clear of marijuana, so one of my very first thoughts was — is CBD legal? This excerpt from CNET explains it in the best way:
“Technically yes, but the answer isn’t quite so cut and dried. The cannabis plant comes in many different varieties. For decades though, the US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) treated them all the same, classifying cannabis as a Schedule I substance. Schedule I drugs are considered to have “no currently accepted medical use and a high potential for abuse” and are thus illegal to produce or possess. However, the Agriculture Improvement Act of 2018 (aka the Farm Bill) changed all that. The Farm Bill legalized “hemp,” which the legislation defined as cannabis that contains no more than 0.3% THC, nationwide. Cannabis that contains higher levels of THC is know listed as “marijuana” and remains a Schedule I drug.
In other words, if a CBD product comes from a hemp plant, it’s legal; if it comes from a marijuana plant, it’s federally illegal, despite local laws. And even if does come from hemp plant, there’s often no guarantee it won’t contain THC, thanks to things like cross-pollination and the absence of industry regulation.”
My CBD Gummies Review
The road to me trying and using CBD gummies/oil was not very straightforward! Like everyone else, when the CBD trend started gaining traction, I was curious. At first, I was skeptical; it seemed too trendy. Then, it stuck around and I wanted to learn more, so I started researching.
The more I learned, the more I thought — could this be the answer to me sleeping through the night? Long story short, I’ve had sleep troubles for a few years now.
If I was able to fall asleep right away, I couldn’t stay asleep. I’d often go to bed and toss and turn for up to 4 hours before being able to fall asleep, only to wake up a couple hours later. It was frustrating to say the least, because yes, I was sleeping, but it wasn’t good sleep, if that makes sense. I’ve also struggled with anxiety for most of my adult life, but my main focus was sleep.
I was visiting my parents in Pennsylvania in fall 2018 and talking to a family friend who is a nurse, when CBD came up. She didn’t sway me one way or the other, but I definitely asked her every question I had. Right there, I decided I was going to try CBD gummies.
I chose Relive Everyday CBD and they are a brand whose products I feel comfortable using + buying. I buy the assorted flavors of 10mg Re-Assure CBD Gummies.
The first night I tried them, I had read reviews online about being sure to not just eat the gummy and swallow it, to more or less suck on it like a hard candy and let the juices from the gummy release into your mouth. So that’s exactly what I did. I didn’t immediately feel tired or groggy and I also didn’t immediately fall asleep. So, I grabbed a magazine and just started reading like I normally do.
CBD Gummies For Sleep
About 20 minutes into my reading, I started to get a sensation of being relaxed, but again – not specifically tired. I decided to try to turn off my light and close my eyes. Honestly – that’s the last thing I remember. The next thing I knew, my alarm was going off at 7AM. I had freaking fallen asleep and slept through the night. Not only that, I felt rested. I could have cried right there on the spot.
I guess you could say that the rest is history. I have continued to take the CBD gummies at home, but I do not travel with them, because to be honest — they’re expensive and there’s always the chance of them being taken. It’s not a risk I’m willing to take.
There is so much chatter in the world of CBD that I wanted to share this post in hopes that it might help someone out there who is considering it, is curious or simply wants more information. Again, I am not a medical professional or CBD expert, so I really encourage you to do research of your own based on your specific needs.
I would love to open up the comments for discussion – do you use CBD products? What are your thoughts on CBD?
