Happy 4th of July! I’m popping in here really quick today to share a delicious (and easy) recipe for sugar cookies with royal icing. My family has been making this sugar cookie recipe for years and the royal icing is one I have perfected over the years, especially given the humidity here in Hawaii. If you have been on the hunt for an easy sugar cookie recipe this one is for you! The royal icing is completely optional, but it definitely adds a fun touch to the cookies.
Easy Sugar Cookies With Royal Icing
I made this batch patriotic in theme, but once you have the sugar cookies mixed, you can cut them into whatever shape you like best! The same goes for the royal icing — make it your own and have fun. I’ve made these cookies for graduation parties, Christmas, Valentine’s Day…and the list goes on! Without further ado, here are all the details you need to make these easy sugar cookies with royal icing.
Easy Sugar Cookies With Royal Icing
For the Sugar Cookies, you will need:
To create my royal icing, you will need:
2 cups + 1 tsp. confectioner’s sugar
1 large egg white
1/2 tsp. water
1. Using an electric mixer (I use my hand mixer, because my stand up KitchenAid is too large for the job unless I’m making a ton of icing!), whip your egg white until slightly frothy.
2. Add in water and sugar.
3. Mix until smooth.
If you choose to make it another color other than white, now is the time to mix it in! I use these color gels, because the color is just SO vibrant and a little bit of gel goes a really long way. Just make sure it’s thoroughly mixed, which will probably take scraping the bowl with a spatula a time or two.
When you have all the colors you wish to use, load up your royal icing into piping bags with tips and get to decorating! Don’t forget to have fun + my tips for working with royal icing 🙂
Enjoy + happy baking!
