A Packing Guide For Hiking Through Utah In Summer

Travel, USA · August 6, 2019 · Leave a Comment

Dane and I traveled to Utah for a week of hiking through Park City and Moab, with some time built into Salt Lake City at the end. We knew our trip to Utah would be, overall, very casual, so we packed very few dressy clothing items and made sure to pack pieces that were versatile. If you are heading out to Utah, I’m sharing what we packed, what we should have left home and more in a full packing guide for hiking through Utah in summer.

A Packing Guide For Hiking Through Utah In Summer

For this packing list, it’s helpful to know our itinerary. We flew into Salt Lake City, drove over to Park City for 3 days, then drove down to Moab for 2 days going through state and national parks, before driving back to Salt Like City for two days.

A Complete Packing List For Utah In Summer:

1 active tank with built-in bra

3 active tops

3 active shorts

3 sports bras

5 pairs of socks

10 pairs of underwear

1 regular bra

3 dresses (dinners in SLC + Park City)

1 pair of jean shorts

2 casual tees

1 swimsuit + coverup

1 Patagonia fleece

1 long sleeved chambray shirt

1 pair of Chacos

1 pair of sneakers

1 pair of sandals to wear to dinners

1 pair of pajamas

For the most part, what I packed worked out really well. I had the perfect amount of active outfits, especially since we had access to laundry facilities in both Park City and Moab. I wore the jean shorts and casual tops to dinner in Moab and then around SLC, so that worked out perfectly.

I definitely overpacked on night time dress-up outfits. I only wore one of the dresses I packed and felt silly having my Patagonia fleece considering how blazing hot it was (over 100 degrees and not much cooler at night!). I packed a swimsuit and coverup and didn’t use those either, though I think I would have if our itinerary hadn’t been so go-go-go. All of our hotels had pools, but we didn’t really have time to use or enjoy them. In retrospect, I also could have left my sneakers at home, because I mostly hiked in my Chacos.

And there you have it! If you’re heading to Utah in the summer, be sure to also pack a refillable water bottle + lots and lots and LOTS of moisturizer/lip balm 🙂
