When I was back in Pennsylvania, I posted a photo of my mom and I wearing the exact same outfit from Athleta. I got a ton of comments about how cute we were, but a surprising amount said something else — What else does your mom buy from Athleta? My mom is a yoga teacher who teaches up to 15 yoga classes on any given week, so she is pretty well-versed in quality athletic apparel and athleisure clothing, as well as what is worth the spend. In fact, she’s the one who introduced me to Athleta years ago! In any case, she has agreed to share her Athleta favorites today, as well as sizing information, for those interested. Let’s get this special edition of Dressing Room Diaries started…!
Dressing Room Diaries: Athleta
First things first — my mom shares that her favorite tights for teaching are Athleta Elation Tights and Elation 7/8 Tights in Powervita, and her favorite bras are the Hyper Focused High Neck Bra in Powervita and Conscious Crop. She says “When I’m teaching I need for apparel to stay in place and not shift around — no wardrobe malfunctions! I can count on these 4 pieces whether I’m doing a super flow or a chair class.”
We shop at the Harrisburg Athleta location, because the staff goes above and beyond. They are all so friendly and knowledgeable on the product, but I think what sets them apart is that they encourage you to try on items that you might otherwise this “cute, but not for me”. That’s how we BOTH fell in love with the Revive Pants (pictured above) and that I talked about in my Athleta try-on a few weeks ago.
Now, on with a few recent try-ons that she loved!
First up – the Foresthill Merino Wool Ascent Tank in black and maroon. For reference, she’s wearing a size small.
“I wasn’t going to try this one on, but the girls [at the store] convinced me. The fit is true to size and the way the arm holes are cut makes it flattering. It’s hard to see in the photos, but the back has open-flow mesh for breathability, which I can see being great for fall/winter workouts or for under a blazer.” Verdict? She bought it in black for versatility!
Next is the Twist Crop Top in black. She is wearing a size medium.
“The pictures don’t really do this bra justice, because it’s an overall really flattering fit. Getting a good snap of it in the dressing room was hard! I already own it in grey and it’s slowly becoming one of my favorite bras to teach in. The twist part of the bra is a separate over-layer from the compression portion of the bra, which I really like. If you are a fan of the Conscious Crop, you will like this bra, too.” Verdict? She bought it!
One thing Athleta does REALLY well is sweaters. I bought one last year that is still without-a-doubt my favorite. My mom tried on the Brookshire Colorblock and Transit Colorblock — neither of which she says she liked on the rack!
First up — the Brookshire Colorblock in white!
“I would have never tried on this white sweater — EVER. But Abby told me that everyone who has tried it on looks good in it and she was right. I was so impressed with this and I would have walked right past it on the rack. I tried it on in a medium it fits nicely, even though my normal Athleta size fluctuates between a small and medium. I know with the right bra it will look even better and the merino wool will be great for winter.” Verdict? She got it in white!
Next up was the Transit Colorblock “As soon as I put this on, I loved it, because it’s longer in the back, which is hard to see in these photos. It’s going to be great over yoga pants for going to/from work and I love how soft the material is.” Verdict? She got it in maroon in a size small!
She also tried it on in grey, which she liked, too, but couldn’t justify two…this trip 😉
And that’s a wrap on her Athleta try-on! Shoutout to my amazing mom for agreeing to share what she loves at Athleta and the amazing Athleta Harrisburg (Shoppes at Susquehanna location for anyone in central PA!) ladies who always help us put together great looks.
So let’s chat — do you shop at Athleta? What do you love?
