Is anyone here a fan of tropical cocktails? I mean come on, I live in Hawaii — of course I like a good tropical cocktail! For my next delicious installment in my Kōloa Rum series, I chose to put a twist on a classic — a Hurricane cocktail. If you’re not familiar, Hurricanes blend several types of fruity juices, along with a blend of rums, to create one super tasty libation. If you are a fan of this classic, then don’t miss today’s recipe — a citrus twist with some love from Hawaii in my Pineapple Hurricane cocktail recipe featuring Kōloa Rum!
Pineapple Hurricane Cocktail With Kōloa Rum
Just like a classic Hurricane cocktail, I went with both a light rum and dark rum, choosing Kōloa Kaua’i Gold Rum and Kōloa Kaua’i Dark Rum. Both have an element of sweetness to them, which make them an easy pick for tropical cocktail recipes. If you wanted a more forward coconut flavor, I would swap the Gold Rum for the Kōloa Kaua’i Coconut Rum.
To make this Pineapple Hurricane Cocktail with Kōloa Rum at home, you will need:
2 oz. Kōloa Gold Rum
1 oz. Kōloa Dark Rum
1 oz POG juice
1 oz pineapple juice
1 oz Coco Lopez
juice from 1/2 lime
splash simple syrup
1. In a shaker with ice, juice the lime and pour the remaining ingredients into the shaker.
2. Shake well.
3. Pour the ingredients into a tumbler (or festive pineapple chalice!) and enjoy!
The unique part of this cocktail is that aside from the rums and lime juice, the coconut cream, POG and pineapple juice ratios can be played with a little bit depending on your palate. To kick things up a notch, you might also consider adding a dark rum floater on top with your hollowed out lime 😉
