TGIF! Happy Friday, friends. I hope you had a wonderful week filled with productivity. And now — pure weekend relaxation. Today I’m covering unicorn jeans I didn’t think existed (yes they are giving my Levi 721s a run for their title), a celebrity I grew up with, a body-positive book for kids and SO. MUCH. MORE. This Friday’s post might just be my favorite to date…Let’s hop right in!
5 Things I Love Friday
Imagine my surprise when I saw the preview for the new season of Hell’s Kitchen, only to see someone I grew up with on the show! Drew is a chef in PA and we grew up in the same tiny town together. He is always posting delicious food photos, so the fact that someone noticed and offered him a spot on the show surprises me 0%. I’m so dang excited for him…and to watch! Oh and it’s worth noting…he’s the belt guy 🙂 Go, Drew, Go!
Have you heard of the Her Body Can book? It’s a body-positive children’s book and it’s co-written by my friend Ady! How cool is that? I’m a big fan of children’s books with beautiful illustrations and this one knocks it out of the park AND features an incredible message to young kids.
I went on a bit of a shopping bender last week to fill a couple gaps I have in my wardrobe after a big clean out. Not only was the mall packed (thank you, Oahu wind), but it was one of those where I loved every single thing I tried on. GULP. I walked away with only items I had a definite use for and left everything else at the store, which always is VERY hard for me, but I’m trying.
My grandma’s 90th birthday is fast approaching and my family is throwing her a party. This calls for a bright and fun outfit and bedecking myself in chunky jewels. If you’ve ever met my grandma, you will understand how this will thrill her. I’m going with a neon sweater and bright shorts, paired with my platform leather espadrilles I got for Christmas.
As I cleaned out my closet, I realized two things 1. I hope low rise jeans never come back into style. And 2. I wear the same pair of jeans over and over and over. It’s great, but I wanted something to rotate in every now and again. Honolulu just got their first ever Madewell store and people have been recommending their jeans to me, so I popped in.
Safe to say I’m a believer, because my new jeans are probably some of the nicest I’ve ever worn. They come with a hefty price tag, but I’m okay with paying a little extra for quality knowing it will last longer. The sales girl who checked me out said most of the jeans she has from Madewell have been in her closet for more than ten years. I’m here for it!
As a side note, the new Honolulu store at Ala Moana is a light and bright masterpiece. So thoughtfully designed and lots of cute items!
And finally – let’s all make a concerted effort to wash our hands. I know that seems so simple, but the statistics on folks not washing their hands is paralyzing. I’ve been doing my best to get out two full happy birthday songs in my head before turning the water back on to rinse. This chart of areas missed during hand washing is disturbing to say the very least.
Happy weekend, everyone!
