For me, fall in Hawaii means breaking out the seasonal flavors, since I won’t be breaking out the cute sweaters and boots. I love, love, love, pumpkin flavors, so know that ahead of time. While browsing Target’s website for my weekly visit, I noticed they have quite a few seasonal food treats, so I decided to pick some up and put them to the test.
Target’s fall food selection doesn’t disappoint and this is only a small fraction of what they offer. Sadly, a lot of it isn’t available here in Hawaii, but it’s worth checking your local store if you share my enthusiasm for fall food!
Here’s what I tried and my unfiltered thoughts…
Fall Food From Target – What To Try + What To Skip
Pumpkin Cheesecake Ice Cream – I saw a preview for this ice cream on AllRecipes and decided that if I could find it, I wanted to try it. Well, our store finally stocked it, so I picked it up. I will say that I was a huge fan of the Pumpkin Cheesecake flavor, because the taste wasn’t overpowering and it definitely had the tang of cheesecake. Plus – big bonus – pieces of graham cracker crust in there to balance out the sweetness. This was a big win for me, but a major fail for Dane, who said it was too cheesecake-y in flavor for him.
Apple Crisp Ice Cream – I saw a preview for this ice cream on AllRecipes and decided that if I could find it, I wanted to try it. Well, our store finally stocked it, so I picked it up. I knew from the first bite that this was going to be a big no for me. It’s SUPER sweet and the cinnamon flavor was a little overpowering for me. That said, this was Dane’s favorite. It all worked out, because I ate the pumpkin and he ate the apple 🙂
Pumpkin Spice Cheerios – If you buy just one thing on this list, let it be these. They’re the perfect balance of subtle pumpkin with the classic Cheerios crunch. Obviously, I really enjoy them in the Marshmallow Cheerio Bars I made, but they’re equally good to just put in a bag and munch on plain. Admittedly, I don’t eat cereal like a normal person (with milk) so I cannot validate how they taste that way, but I imagine pretty good!
Pumpkin Cheesecake Cookies – Okay, these are delicious. I did not have high hopes, if I’m being honest, because after all the *too sweet* pumpkin items I tried, I really believed these were going to be a swing and a miss. Imagine my surprise when I bit into the cookie and it was a perfectly balanced pumpkin-ginger flavor with sweet cream filling. The box says the filling is cheesecake, but I’m going to stick my neck out and say it tastes nothing like cheesecake. I am not a big cookie eater, but I would definitely buy these again. I plan to turn the rest of my box into a seasonal pie crust – stay tuned!
Pumpkin Spice Almonds – Mmmmm okay – so I have *thoughts* on these. I had the impression in my head that mixture of white chocolate and pumpkin would create a subtle flavor and instead I was greeted with a pumpkin flavor explosion in my mouth. If you really love pumpkin spice, or are looking for something to add to a seasonal charcuterie, this is it. If ALL THE FALL FLAVORINGS are really not your thing, maybe skip these. I did have the idea to maybe use these to make a fall dessert, but TBD on that!
Silk Pumpkin Spice Creamer – I buy this every year and while I absolutely love it, after using Nutpods daily, it tastes very, very sweet to me. It’s certainly a nice dairy-free treat, though, and I will continue to buy it when it comes out, but a little bit goes a long way. 10/10 for pumpkin flavor, though, because even though I’m only using a splash, the flavoring is pretty strong, which I enjoy.
Pumpkin Spice Coffee – I loved this. There is no six ways around it. As soon as I got it home, I loaded it into our refillable K-Cups. It tastes just like a more expensive brand (ahem – S*Bucks), but with the same great pumpkin flavor. Now, I will say – I don’t feel like it’s as strong as the normal Hawaiian coffee we drink, but it’s so delicious, we wound up mixing it together with the Hawaiian coffee we love.
Pumpkin Boom Chicka Pop – Alright, I saved this one for last, because I was admittedly really skeptical about it. I LOVE Angie’s Popcorn (hello – Salted Caramel Popcorn Ice Cream Pie!), but something about pumpkin popcorn had me feeling some type of way…and it wasn’t good. As it turns out, this was so delicious I ate almost the entire bag in one sitting at my desk. Whoops! It’s really, really good and not in an overly-pumpkin flavor type of way. More like a salty maple with hints of seasonal flavorings (think nutmeg, pumpkin and cinnamon) type of way. Oh gosh it’s so, so good. I highly recommend a bag to snack on!
And there you have it – my full pumpkin food from Target review. Have you tried any of these, or is there something I absolutely need to get my hands on to sample?
