It’s that time of the week again…TGIF! This week’s edition of 5 Things I Love Friday could be summarized as “books and snacks” with a little bit of hand-drawn love + some worthy internet reads. Let’s get right into it, shall we?
5 Things I Love Friday
Did anyone else follow Amanda Kloots + Nick Cordero’s story this spring and summer? I was glued to any/all updates and when Nick passed away, I felt the loss personally. I was devastated and I’ve thought about Amanda more than once since it happened. How is she doing? How is baby Elvis? In any case, her book is available for pre-order and I am (obviously) really eager to read it!
Mango Jalapeño Apple Fruit Snacks – These are like if fruit snacks had a baby with jalapeños and I know that sounds very weird, but just stick with me. I was introduced to these by my friend Casey who sent me a care package earlier this year. Needless to say, I was intrigued, but when I had my first taste…I was hooked.
The flavor is absolutely insane and I demolished the bag in about 10 minutes. It tastes just like a regular fruit snack, though I will admit they are a little bit harder and more chewy, which I love, and then the aftertaste is SPICY. My friend Rachel offered to send me more and I’ve been rationing them! If you have a Trader Joe’s near you – run, do not walk, to get some. These are definitely a 2020 highlight and I seriously hope Santa gets the memo on this one!
How adorable is the chalk montage I saw on my evening walk last week? I couldn’t help but snap some pics of my neighbor’s art!
Sour Raisins – There is something that is really important to know about me and it’s that I don’t like raisins. Grapes? All day. Wine? All day. Raisins? Goodbye. I don’t know what it is (maybe too many as a kid?), but I’m just not a fan. In any case, several people had been telling me for about a year that I HAD to try these Sour Raisins (Strawberry + Watermelon). In any case, I could never find them at my store and a small part in the back of my mind was like – raisins are gross. So, imagine my surprise when my friend Sarah sent me a box of the sour watermelon flavor and was like – TRY THEM.
You guys, I ate the entire box in two days. I am not ashamed to admit this, but I am ashamed it took me so long to try them! I cannot wait to get my hands on a box of the strawberry varietal! Warning: they are super-pucker sour…and I LOVE it!
I recently finished “Home Before Dark” and whoa – I don’t think a book has kept me up at night like this in a long while. And I’ll be honest and say that I was a little bit afraid of the dark after reading the final chapter, because I DID NOT see the ending coming. If you want something that is going to keep you on the edge of your chair, this book is it!
I know I’ve blogged before about Lisa + Peter and Peter’s journey with early-onset Alzheimer’s. Their story has captivated me from the very beginning + you can definitely be sure to follow Lisa’s Facebook page that tells their story through daily posts. Peter’s disease has gotten to the point where Lisa is now a full-time caretaker, and it’s a role she takes very seriously. But it’s also a role that is completely running her ragged as it’s 24/7 now that Peter’s condition has progressed.
Peter doesn’t trust anyone but Lisa and his part-time helper, Collins, to be in the house, so it makes it really tricky for Lisa to get any time to herself. A GoFundMe page has been set up + for every $25, Lisa is able to get 1 hour of time for herself where she can hire Collins for additional paid help to take time to breathe, take a shower, rest, paint her nails. You know – things that help her fill her tank in order to be the best spouse and caretaker for Peter. I know this amazing woman will appreciate every little bit!
