Looking for a delicious twist on a classic mai tai recipe? Look no further than the Koloa Tai featuring Kōloa Rum!
This summer, I had the opportunity to film a recipe video in collaboration with Kōloa Rum for Hawaii Magazine. I’m so grateful to be amazingly talented friend Max from MaxSnaps for helping me out! She is the creative genius behind the how-to video and photography.
Koloa Rum Mai Tai
I realized I never shared the beautiful outcome here, so I wanted to take the chance to share not just these pretty picture (the video is great too if you click over!), but this delicious mai tai recipe.
Let me just warn you – in the production of this, Max and I definitely drank a few (you know, to make sure we had it juuuuust right) and two of these wicked strong cocktails is my limit.
Strong Mai Tai Recipe
If you’re looking for a delicious mai tai recipe that is a true taste of the Hawaiian Islands, look no further than this Koloa Tai made with Kōloa Rum.
To recreate this cocktail at home, you will need:
3/4 oz. Kōloa White Rum
3/4 oz. Kōloa Gold Rum
3/4 oz. Kōloa Dark Rum
1/2 oz. Clement Créole Shrubb Liqueur d’Orange or Grand Marnier
1 oz. lime juice
1/4 oz. pineapple juice
1/4 oz. orange juice
3/4 oz. orgeat
1. In a shaker with ice, combine Kōloa White and Kōloa Gold rums, orange liqueur, juices and orgeat.
2. Shake and strain over a cup filled with ice. Crushed is the most delicious, but any ice will work!
3. Top with a Kōloa Dark Rum float and enjoy!
