It’s here! It’s here! My full Dressing Room Diaries: Target Swimwear 2021 guide has arrived. If you’re new here, I do an annual Target swimsuits dressing room try-on session and it’s one of my most popular posts of the year. You can check out The Official Guide To Target Swimwear 2017, The Official Guide To Target Swimwear 2018 ,The Official Guide to Target Swimwear 2019 + last but certainly not least The Official Guide To Target Swimwear 2020. But today, I’m dishing Target’s two piece swimwear, one piece swimsuits, Target swim sizing and more.
THE OFFICIAL GUIDE TO TARGET SWIMSUITS 2021
Now, let’s address the elephant in the room — dressing rooms. Because none are open right now (at least near me), this year’s swimwear guide is going to be a little bit different. Of course, I won’t be in a fitting room trying them all on and I chose not to order a ton to my house just to try them on and return them for safety and sanitary reasons. Instead, I’m going to rely heavily on guides from years past when it comes to how each brand fits and reference specific suits with links, and my impressions while browsing my Target store in-person.
TARGET WOMEN’S SWIMSUITS
Twist-Front Bikini Top + High Waist Bikini Bottom – This recommendation for Kona Sol actually comes from my sweet mom! She purchased Kona Sol’s high-waisted bottoms two years ago and then went online last year to snag another one! The fit is excellent and quality is high. Worth noting – the bottoms are full coverage! Now let’s talk about the top. I saw this one in my Target store and was immediately like..okay I need that. It’s sporty enough to hold me in place while I chase the dogs, but cute enough for a relaxing beach day. Double duty suits are a total win. My most comfortable Kona Sol size is a medium.
Wrap Halter + Full Coverage Hipster Bottoms – This is Target’s top selling suit for the year, so I couldn’t not include it. Admittedly, I’m not a huge halter swimsuit fan (the neck tie bothers me), but I LOVE this! I think it’s super cute and based on customer images, it looks to universally flattering! #WIN – As I get older, I want a more full coverage bottom, but since the wrap halter comes in basic colors, you could also pair this with a cheekier plain black bottom! Worth noting: The bottoms come in side tie or no tie.
Underwire Bikini Top + Bottom – I think that Xhilaration bikinis are ADORABLE, but the brand itself runs small in my opinion. That said, one of my very favorite bikinis EVER from my 2017 Target Swim try-on is an Xhilaration suit and it’s still running strong. The color is still vibrant and the suit hasn’t lost its elasticity, so that’s a win for me given how frequently I wear it year-round. I love the color of this basic suit and the bottoms don’t tie (praise the Lord), which is sometimes hard to find on swimwear that caters to a younger crowd. My recommendation: SIZE UP! I have a medium in top and bottom, but bottom could have easily gone to a large.
TARGET BIKINIS
Tie Front Tankini Top – If anyone is looking for an active-style top, this is a winner! Cut exactly like Lululemon’s famed Cooling Racerback, I think the bow is a subtle, yet fun detail. The black stripes make it a classic and could easily be paired with a basic bottom that’s already in your closet, or something floral and fun for a mix-and-match look.
ONE PIECE SWIMSUIT TARGET
Black One Piece Cut Out – GOOD NEWS! My top suit of 2020 is back in stock! I knew as soon as I saw this suit on the rack last year that I was going to love it. Turns out, I loved it more on me than I did on the rack — WINNING! You guys, this is BEYOND flattering and fits true to size. I’m wearing a medium and I think my smile kind of says it all – I felt confident and the suit itself is fun. I wasn’t immediately in love with the mesh back, but I think it gives the suit itself breathability. For the price, you can’t beat it and I’m so glad Target has brought it back in stock again. Photo is from last year’s roundup!
TARGET SWIMSUITS 2021
Colorblock One Shoulder – Some of you might remember my one shoulder swimsuit from 2019 (It was my top suit of the year!), and I’m so excited to see this Summersalt-inspired suit pop up at Target. If I had to guess, this one is going to be really popular this year, because it’s extremely flattering and it’s made for those of us with long torsos!
Strapless One Piece – Another winner from previous years! The Kona Sol brand at Target is fabulous for both cut and quality. I’m in my 30s now, so I don’t want a suit that is riding up my derriere all the time and Kona Sol fits the bill! This suit is SO. DANG. FLATTERING. and I’m really glad to see it was brought back! It has over 200 rave reviews online and I can see why, plus the flounce is just in the front which means no annoying fabric sticking in your armpits once it gets wet (that’s a real thing!). My strapless suit from a couple years back was awesome!
Whew! We covered A LOT of ground today. I mean – bikinis, one pieces and details…OH MY! But seriously – this might be my favorite post of the year and I hope it was a little bit helpful for those of you starting to navigate 2021 swimwear options and swimsuit styles. Whether you live in a warm location or are simply just daydreaming about summer (it will be here before we know it!) Target has some amazing swimsuit options this year. Let me know what you think, which your favorites are and of course, if you have any questions!
