Looking to improve the search engine optimization of your blog or website? Here are 4 easy ways to increase SEO!
For bloggers and website owners looking to make sure their content gets on the first page of Google, search engine optimization, or SEO, is a really important factor. That said, the words SEO can make even the savviest writer cringe. It may feel overwhelming or time consuming. But SEO is so important! Today I’m sharing easy ways to increase SEO, and thereby increasing page views.
4 Easy Ways To Increase SEO
Target keywords.
One of the ways Google reads your website or blog for SEO is by scanning it for keywords. In other words – what is your blog post about? Research has shown that most people don’t click past the first page of Google, so optimizing your content to make that first page is crucial in order to get more page views!
Name photos.
It’s really easy to simply upload your photos and be on your way. But did you know that Google crawls your site, including your photos, for SEO? It’s true. Naming your photos for the keyword you would like to rank for is so important. For example, if your post was about Pumpkin Spice Lattes, and your keyword was “Best Pumpkin Spice Lattes”, you would want your photos to be named “Best-Pumpkin-Spice-Lattes”. Not hard, but it can be time consuming and easy to forget!
Use anchor link text.
What is an anchor text link? An anchor text link is a clickable link that has a relevant phrase attached to it, based on the content you are linking out to. For so long, I would type things like: “For more information on best Hawaii hikes, click here” and “here” would be linked. THIS IS BAD. By using an anchor text link, the new phrase would be “If you liked this post, don’t miss my post on the best Hawaii hikes!” where “best Hawaii hikes” would be hyperlinked. This makes your post SEO-friendly and alerts Google to the fact that you have multiple, relevant pages with reliable information.
Update old posts.
So, you have a post that is ranking for a specific topic. That’s great news! But one day you see that instead of the #4 spot, you’re getting kicked down to the #7, then #13 spot. Before you know it, you’re off the first page of Google. GO BACK AND UPDATE YOUR POST! Google crawls pages and awards rankings based on the most up-to-date and refreshed information. Add in new outbound links, refresh your intro or add more bullet points if it’s a list.
