Have you been seeing pet owners rave about Chewy.com? Today I’m sharing my honest Chewy review after using the company for more than a year.
When we moved from Hawaii to the mainland, I was so excited, because I could finally uses online pet retailers. The one that came most highly recommended was Chewy.com. My parents use it for dog food and supplement deliveries (you can see their pup Millie below with her special delivery!) and I have quite a few friends who have posted about their love of the brand. So, I decided to test them out for dog food deliveries. Since then, we’ve also used the company for supplement refills, treats and toys. If you’re considering Chewy.com, today’s post is for you.
My Honest Chewy Review
First things first – Chewy.com has no idea who I am and I’m not being compensated in any way to share this review. Just my honest opinion as a dog owner who was desperate to save a little bit of money and discovered this brand after we moved from Hawaii to the mainland.
What is Chewy.com?
Chewy.com is an online retailer that caters to the needs of pet owners, specifically dog owners, by providing a wide range of pet supplies, including prescription food from veterinarians (a major highlight for us!).
Product Selection and Quality
Chewy.com has an impressive array of pet supplies, offering everything from food and treats to toys, grooming products, and even medications. Their extensive product selection ensures that pet owners can find everything they need to care for their furry friends in one convenient place. Further, Chewy.com partners with numerous reputable brands, ensuring the availability of high-quality products that meet the specific needs of various pet breeds and sizes.
It’s worth noting that I often see products price matched for other pet retailers (like Petco), but in general I think the prices are pretty good compared to our veterinarian.
Prescription Food from Veterinarians
One standout feature of Chewy.com is its selection of prescription food from veterinarians. This service is a big win for dog owners like me whose pets have specific dietary requirements or health conditions that necessitate specialized food. In Hawaii, we had to rely on buying their prescription food directly from the veterinarian, which was fine, but it always required a trip in the car. Judy and Bill eat prescription food to help alleviate some of their allergies and to support oncology care for Bill, so making sure we have access to it is (obviously) essential.
Chewy.com simplifies the process by allowing customers to upload their pet’s prescription directly on the website, ensuring that they can purchase the required food without any hassle. If they need clarification, they contact our vet personally so there is literally 0 hassle on behalf of the owner.
Customer Service
Customer service is a crucial aspect of any online retailer, and Chewy.com excels in this department in such a standout way. Their customer support team is highly responsive and readily available to assist with any inquiries or concerns. I’ve sent them emails with questions before (about the above mentioned prescription food) and I swear they replied within 10-15 minutes. It was so fast, I thought it was an automated mailer!
In my experience, Chewy.com’s customer service representatives are knowledgeable and friendly, providing prompt and helpful assistance.
Finally, Chewy.com is known for its outstanding commitment to customer satisfaction, often going above and beyond to resolve any issues that may arise. We’ve had instances before where we received products by mistake, and Chewy has told us to donate them to a local animal shelter. They don’t mess around with making you return it, printing a label, etc.
When Bill was diagnosed with cancer, they even sent us a special care package. It meant so much to our family and was totally unexpected!
Shipping and Delivery
The brand seems to understand the importance of timely delivery when it comes to pet supplies, because their shipping times are super efficient. In most cases, I order and my shipment arrives in 2 days. Sometimes shipping is even free when I spend $50 or more (which is always honestly).
NOVEMBER 2023 UPDATE: I still love Chewy more than ever, but I wanted to add that when we lost Bill, they made it so easy to 1. stop all the automated medicines we had on auto-ship 2. Refunded us for medicines that arrived the day he died and 3. Sent a beautiful card to our family. I know this sounds like some sort of paid advertisement for Chewy, but it’s not. It’s simply a pet company that understands the value of good customer communication and taking care of the people who support them.
Overall, my impression of the company is great. I love not having to think about food or supplements (I have them on auto-delivery) and the quick/free shipping is a major perk.
