Considering splurging on the Free People Hailee Sweater Set? Take a minute to read my honest review before purchasing this cozy two piece set.
If you’ve been on the internet lately, you know about the Free People Hailee Sweater Set. Well, maybe you know it as the cozy two piece sweater set. Regardless, it has been making its rounds on Instagram and TikTok as the weather starts to get chilly again. I bought the Hailee set during the at-home times, because I got to a point where I wanted to remain in my comfy clothes, but look a little elevated when I sat on the couch. You know? If this set has caught your eye, today I’m sharing my honest thoughts and whether or not it’s worth the $128 price tag.
My Honest Thoughts On Free People’s Hailee Sweater Set
First things first, what the heck is this set? It’s a slouchy-fit two piece set made of cotton sweater material. I think it’s important to really drill in that the material is very soft cotton. Sometimes the word sweater indicates itchy or maybe sweaty, but neither is true of this set. It comes in a ton of colors, but I got mine in a burnt orange that unfortunately doesn’t appear to be available anymore. That said, if I could do it over again I’d get navy or charcoal. It just wasn’t available when I was shopping!
For reference, I am 5’4 and weigh around 130 pounds, but when I bought this (pictured) I weighed around 145 pounds. The small still fits great at both weights! The fit of the set is naturally very drape-y and oversized, so you cannot go wrong.
One of my biggest concerns about the set was that you can’t pick different sizes for the top and bottoms. I felt good about the top, but wasn’t quite sure how the bottoms would fit. My fears were completely unfounded, because the bottoms fit perfectly and because they are a sweater material, they do have a bit of give. The waistband is thicker, but there is room, and the way the top drapes makes it very flattering overall.
If you ever have those at-home days where you want to be comfortable, but pulled together, the set looks great for lounging around the house. I’ve also worn it with a chambray shirt underneath to Thanksgiving dinner. Hello stretchy pants!
What I think I love most is the high quality nature of the fabric, making both the top and the bottoms two great closet additions on their own. Sure they look great together, but the sweater is nice to throw on over pajamas for chillier mornings or with jeans and clogs and the pants can be dressed up or down, too.
Another concern I had was about washing the set. Sometimes sweaters pull, especially cotton ones with larger weaves, and the thought of dry cleaning something was too much for me. Thankfully, I can happily report that I wash this on gentle in my washing machine at home and hang it to dry and it washes beautifully! So if that is a fear of yours, let it go.
Free People Hailee Sweater Set Dupe
I have to be honest, this is one of those sets that is worth paying full price for, because you essentially get three outfits in one (set together and then the pants and sweater independently). That considered, I know that the price range isn’t feasible and a dupe is more alluring. This Free People Hailee Sweater Set Dupe is really popular, but I have not tried it myself, so I cannot speak for quality or durability after washing.
Would I recommend this set? Yes, 100 times over. I have worn it while living in Hawaii and while living in Washington, DC and it’s cozy, durable, not itchy, washes well and gets compliments every single time.
