Trying to figure out where to go next? Here are 7 questions to ask yourself before choosing your next vacation destination.
One of the questions Dane and I get asked a lot is: How do you decide where you are going to go on your next vacation? The answer is pretty simple: We want to go everywhere. The more complex answer is that we have a huge list of destinations we want to visit and a ballpark idea of how much each one would cost. A weekend away in Charleston isn’t quite the same as a week-long jungle trek in Uganda, but they’re both on our list. The monetary component is key!
Planning the perfect vacation can be an exciting AND daunting task. With countless destinations around the world, each offering its own charm and appeal, deciding where to go can be challenging. That said, by asking yourself some important questions and considering factors like price points, interests, and time constraints, you can narrow down your options and find the ideal vacation destination. Today I’m sharing our foolproof process for how to choose your next vacation destination!
How To Choose Your Next Vacation Destination
Before diving into destination options, it’s so so so SO important to understand your preferences, constraints and priorities. These 7 questions will help you narrow the field.
7 Questions to Ask Yourself Before Planning Your Trip
Before diving into destination options, it’s essential to understand your preferences, constraints, and priorities. Here are seven questions to help you get started:
1. What’s Your Budget?
Determine how much you’re willing to spend on your vacation. Your budget will significantly influence your destination options. Once you have your budget, double check travel websites like Expedia which sometimes offer discounts you don’t see other places. I LOVE to shop prices once I have my itinerary nailed down!
2. How Much Time Can You Allocate?
Consider your available vacation days. A long weekend, a week, or several weeks? Your time constraints will impact the feasibility of certain destinations.
3. What Are Your Interests and Passions?
Think about your hobbies and interests. Do you love the beach, hiking, exploring historical sites, or immersing yourself in local culture? Your interests should align with your destination’s offerings.
4. What Type of Climate Do You Prefer?
Some people thrive in hot, sunny weather, while others prefer cooler temperatures. Consider the climate you’re most comfortable in when choosing a destination for your vacation.
5. Are There Any Specific Activities or Experiences You Want?
Do you dream of scuba diving in tropical waters, tasting local cuisine, or attending a music festival? Identifying your must-do activities can help narrow down destinations or even guide the entire trip.
6. Are You Traveling Solo, With a Partner or With Family?
Think about what your travel companions might be interested in, too. A destination suitable for a romantic getaway (like Tahiti) might differ from a family-friendly location (like Disney).
7. Have You Traveled to Similar Destinations Before?
Think about your past travels. Do you want to explore a new culture or revisit a place you loved?
