It’s hard to believe we are shutting the door on another year. I’m not sure if anyone reads these posts, but I like to pull it all together for our family to look back on one day. Breaking down the year in numbers is a fun way to do this and I did it for the first time in 2016 (2016 In Review), continued the tradition in 2017 (2017 In Review), 2018 (2018 In Review). 2019 In Numbers was probably my favorite yet, because it included so many milestones, and truthfully because I had nooooo clue what 2020 would be. Did any of us? Despite 2020 feeling like a disaster in so many ways, I trudged forward with 2020 In Numbers.
2021 brought big changes for our family and honestly so did 2022. I’d be lying if I said this year was any different, but the only constant is change, right? Let’s dive right in…
2023 In Numbers
110 – Number of new blog posts on this blog. I’m proud of this number. This year blogging has taken more of a backseat in my life, but I’ve still averaged around 8 new posts per month.
70 – Pounds lost between Dane and I. We really leaned into our health this year and it’s been the best decision we’ve ever made.
2 – Number of summer walks we did through downtown DC, clocking about 12 miles each time. Seeing DC by foot is pretty fun!
5 – Museums visited in DC this year. I think our favorite is the Portrait Gallery!
100+ – Number of articles written. I lost count after the 100 mark and honestly, I’m very proud of that. I left my job at NBC in May and started freelancing steadily again in August.
6 – Fires out back in our Solo Stove.
4 – Months we were unable to live in our home due to black mold.
1 – Trip to Nags Head, North Carolina. Seeing the dogs tear through the sand in the bitter cold of February was amazing. I cannot say enough good things about visiting the beach in winter!
Unquantifiable things: Heartache as we navigated the ups and downs of cancer. Sunsets and sunrises. Tears shed when we ultimately lost Bill. Moments spent laying in bed drinking coffee. Miles driven between PA and VA. Laughs shared with friends in person and via text message. Therapy sessions. Instagram stories. Small flashes of joy.
I never want to forget the lessons that I learned in 2023. Though this year dealt us a terrible blow in losing our sweet baby, we are counting it all joy. Here’s to 2024.
