It’s hard to miss the bright pink packaging of Trader Joe’s Brazil Nut Body Oil on store shelves + I’m sharing my honest review of the product after using it for a few weeks.
If you’ve been around this blog for any length of time you know I love the Trader Joe’s Brazil Nut products. When I saw TJ’s debut a body oil that is remarkably similar to a more expensive product (that is wildly popular), I knew I had to try it. Thankfully, my mom was already ON THE BALL. She had purchased us each a bottle to try at her Trader Joe’s (sometimes PA gets things before DC!) and I was so excited. Today I’m sharing my honest thoughts on the Trader Joe’s Brazil Nut Body Oil.
My Honest Thoughts On Trader Joe’s Brazil Nut Body Oil
First things first, yes, this product is an absolute dupe for Sol de Janeiro and the brand’s signature smell. You know my affinity for Bum Bum Cream, and their body oil is absolutely one of my favorite items they carry – but it’s $52 for 3.4oz. I don’t mind investing in myself, but I also like saving money when I can. Trader’s Joe’s Brazil Nut Body Oil is $6.99 for 4oz. Both boast squalane and guarana extract as top moisturizing components. The products’ side-by-side ingredients are below with Trader Joe’s on the left and SDJ on the right.
From a color perspective, they are similar and the scent is spot-on. The only thing that TJ’s doesn’t tout with their product that is a key component of SDJ’s marketing is firming and tightening. Either way, I was excited to give it a try.
I apply my body oil at night after a hot shower when my body is still damp and not fully dry. My first impression was that the oil feels exactly like a high quality bath product and goes on very smooth. I applied it using the same technique I always use which is a circular motion all over my body. I wound up using one pump per arm/leg/stomach, so for my fully body I used around 6 pumps, which is probably a little bit more than the SDJ.
The morning I woke up after using the oil, my skin felt noticeably more hydrated than it had (I’ve been out of all body oil). I’ve now been using the product for a couple weeks and I really like it. The only downsides of the TJ’s product I’ve noticed that are stark differences to SDJ is that the scent doesn’t stick around as long and I think the oil dries up quite a bit quicker.
Overall would I buy this product and give it a try? Absolutely. I stocked up on a few bottles to hopefully carry me through the dry winter months and into summer. You know how TJ’s is – you’ve got to get it when you see it, otherwise it will be gone!
