Sharing all the details of my brother-in-law and new sister-in-law’s wedding at New Canaan Country Club earlier this month!
As soon as my brother-in-law Erik shared he and his then-girlfriend Maddie were engaged, I immediately got excited for their wedding. They have a great group of friends, so I knew it would be a really fun time, no matter where it all went down. They chose September 7th in her hometown of New Canaan, Connecticut and it was probably one of the most beautiful weddings I’ve ever been to. They hosted all of the weekend’s events at the New Canaan Country Club and despite being at the same location, each event was so uniquely beautiful.
A Beautiful New Canaan, Connecticut Wedding Weekend
First things first – Erik and Maddie had their wedding block for guests in Stamford and provided shuttles to and from New Canaan for their guests which made it really easy to go back and forth! That’s an important detail, because I’m not sure there are too many lodging options in New Canaan, so consider The Lloyd or Hampton Inn.
The wedding weekend began on Friday with their rehearsal dinner at the pool house of the club, which featured all their very best friends giving speeches. It was a little bit like a roast, which was a great ice breaker for everyone meeting each other and it’s safe to say we all laughed out loud. The dinner was followed by cocktails at the pool bar which had been transformed into a stylish bistro-like setting…think high top tables and twinkle lights. They also hired a magician and cigar roller, which added such a fun (and unexpected) element.
Maddie had all of her sisters and best friends come to her house Saturday morning to get ready and it was so sweet that I was included in that group. Her friends are the nicest humans and we sat around and ate, drank champagne, and laughed while everyone had their hair and makeup done. Maddie gifted each of us a pair of these PIYAMA pajamas and they are pretty much the softest things I’ve ever put on my body. We had almost the entire morning to have fun and get ready before heading over to New Canaan Country Club for the wedding and reception. The entire outdoor portion was covered with a beautiful tent for the ceremony and the inside ballroom was immaculate. I know you probably think “country club wedding” but this was so far from what you’d expect. Think mood lighting and elaborate florals — essentially it looked like a custom designed room just for this event. It helps that the space has floor to ceiling windows, so the natural light that poured in before dusk made it feel even more romantic.
From start to finish, the wedding weekend was nothing short of magical. You could FEEL the amount of love being poured into Erik and Maddie and we were both so thrilled to be part of their big day. Details I loved about the entire weekend include: The matching pajama sets for all the girls, family-style dinner at the rehearsal, the magician at the rehearsal drinks was SO CAPTIVATING (not cheesy at all), custom matchbooks that commemorated their love story, a full raw bar at the cocktail hour (wedding day) with ice sculpture, all white florals, the custom drink menu, having best friends wear blue dresses as “something blue” and the band was INSANE!
If you’re planning a New Canaan Wedding, her vendors included:
Photography: Susan Shek
Hair + Makeup: Jen Kinford Beauty
Florist: Earth Garden Flowers
Band: Atomic Funk Project
I’m sure there were many more, but all of the above stood out to me in the very best way and if you’re planning a wedding in the greater NYC area, I would recommend all of them. I cannot say enough good things about the band, which kept every single person at the reception on the dance floor. That is no small feat if you’ve ever been to a wedding! And now, what you’ve been waiting for…photos!
A few snaps from the rehearsal dinner and welcome drinks….
And finally…the big day! And if you think these are beautiful, the professional photos are BEYOND. Cannot say enough good things about Susan’s work!
