Ready to try something new for brunch in Washington, DC? Consider heading to La Bonne Vache in Georgetown!
Nestled in the charming heart of Georgetown, La Bonne Vache invites you to indulge in a brunch experience that feels straight out of a Parisian dream. This French-inspired bistro blends rustic elegance with a warm, welcoming atmosphere, making it the perfect spot to kickstart your weekend. The catch? No reservations and nearly impossible to get into at night with a line that wraps fully around the block. Our solution was to try to pop in right when it opened on a Saturday and the result was the place almost to ourselves. So – why must you go to brunch at La Bonne Vache? Because you’ll actually get in and have access to the entire delicious menu with little to no wait.
Why You Must Go To Brunch At La Bonne Vache In Georgetown
Does La Bonne Vache have a true brunch menu? No. But they open at 11AM so by that time it’s more than acceptable to throw lunch/dinner/anytime foods into the mix, right? We walked right in and there was only one other table seated, so not only did we get to take a good look around (it’s super cute), but it felt very much like we had our pick of seats and the entire place to ourselves. We chose window seats and to be honest, I think we had the best in the house.
Now, the menu – it’s everything you have ever wanted from a cozy French cafe. We started with two French 75s (perfect amount of tart and fizz) and gougères, which are kind of like savory cream puffs with gruyère cheese baked in. 10/10 could have just stopped with this course and gone home, because it was so tasty! You got 6 puffs in a single order, which I thought was great, too.
Next, we tried a cup of the soup of the day, which was Lobster Bisque, but unlike a normal lobster bisque soup, this one had an added kick of spice, which was great because the weather was a cold rainy mix. I also liked dipping the gougères into the soup.
For our “main” we split the Roti De Beouf: Shaved rib eye of beef, gruyere cheese, frisée, and horseradish garlic aioli, all served on a baguette. The server warned us it was big, but I wasn’t prepared for just how hearty this sandwich really is! It took up an entire plate before we split it to share. It’s like the best cheesesteak you’ve ever had in your life x10 plus horseradish and crusty, fresh bread. I cannot say enough good things about it, so really you just need to go and get one for yourself.
And what is a meal without something sweet at the end? We ordered two cappuccinos and split the Crème Caramel. It goes without saying there was none left of any of it. Indulgent without being over-the-top sweet and cappuccinos with perfect foam (a title I don’t give lightly).
The takeaway here should be obvious but if it’s not, I’ll spell it out for you: You should absolutely go here for brunch/lunch/dinner however you can get in if you’re in town. Whether you live here or are visiting, La Bonne Vache is sure to become a new favorite!
