We are back from a whirlwind trip to Hawaii that included Kauai and Oahu and it was a much-needed long vacation away from it all. It’s been awhile since I popped onto my blog to share an update, but I am diving back in today to share everything I wore during our trip. What to wear in Hawaii in February for a multi-week, multi-island trip is a tall order, because it’s HAWAII, but it’s also the tail end of rainy season, and on top of all of that – we were attending a wedding. So it required a bit of strategic planning and I think I did pretty OK!

What To Wear In Hawaii In February
I packed one suitcase and checked it and used ALOHA Collection bags to keep everything organized. I try to roll items as best I can to maximize my space, knowing full well I needed to prep for different temps and settings.
Weather In Hawaii In February
The weather in Hawaii in February is Hawaii warm temperatures with a mix of sunshine and occasional rain showers. February is part of Hawaii’s rainy season, but showers are usually brief and scattered, and gentle trade winds keep things comfortable, but it can be humid. Daytime highs are around 78–82°F with evening lows around 65–70°F.
So what did I pack?

Daytime (Beach & Exploring)
Swimsuits – Bring at least two so you always have a dry one. I packed…more than two…but in my defense, we spent most days in our bathing suits. I love my Vetchy swimsuits and they’re the perfect combo of comfortable, but secure.
Cover-ups – A lightweight sarong, kimono, or linen shirt works well. I brought my favorite Printfresh set, because it has long sleeves that could double as a tiny bit of sun protection if needed.
Breathable dresses, rompers, or shorts & tank tops – Stick to airy fabrics like linen or cotton.
Jeans – I packed a single pair of jeans for nights after I had had sun, since I knew I’d be cold.
Comfortable sandals – Flip-flops (locals call them “slippers”) are perfect for casual wear.

Hiking & Outdoor Adventures
Athletic shorts & moisture-wicking tops – Helps with humidity and sweat.
Hiking shoes or sturdy sneakers – Some trails are muddy, so don’t bring your favorite pair of all-white sneakers.
Hat & sunglasses – Protect yourself from the strong sun. I wore my woven visor everywhere we went and I packed my favorite pair of polarized aviators that I wore all day, every day.
Rain jacket or light windbreaker – February can bring occasional showers, especially on the windward sides of the islands.

Evening & Dining Out
Casual sundresses or jumpsuits – Most restaurants are laid-back, but nicer spots may have a resort-casual dress code. I packed lots of Farm Rio items, because I love their colorful designs.
Comfortable sandals or casual espadrilles – I only packed one pair of heels, because we were heading to the wedding, otherwise I would have been in my waterproof Birks and/or rainbow flip flops pretty much the entire time.
Wedding guest dresses – We had a couple events for the wedding and I needed to pack those. Obviously if you’re not attending a special event, you can leave them out!

Extras
Light sweater or cardigan – Evenings can be breezy, especially near the ocean. I packed my favorite printed coat from Etsy!
Reef-safe sunscreen – A must for protection and making sure it’s reef-safe is paramount. I brought Avene sunscreen and it was wonderful – not chalky and rubbed in really well!
Steamer – A portable steamer is a must if you are attending events!

And there you go! Truthfully, you do not need a ton to have the absolute best time in Hawaii and enjoy yourself – the basics work just fine.
