If you’ve spent any amount of time on social media lately, I’m sure you’ve noticed Ourself. Today I’m sharing my honest review of Ourself Lip Filler.
Like a lot of people, I got swept up in the hype over the Ourself Lip Filler. It kept popping up on my feed, promising fuller lips without the needle—and with a $145 price tag, I expected something seriously impressive. Then, I saw Injector Bunny talking about it on her Instagram and I was like you know what – I’m trying that ASAP. If you’ve been considering trying Ourself for yourself, read my review first.
My Experience with the Viral Ourself Lip Filler
First Impressions
When the balm arrived, I loved the sleek packaging and it definitely felt like a luxury product. The applicator was easy to use, and the formula had a slight minty scent. But the moment I applied it, I felt a strong tingling sensation. Not the mild, plumping kind of tingle like you might feel after applying BUXOM. This was more like a burning feeling. It was intense enough to make me question whether I was having a reaction.
I checked the directions again and realized I had applied it just slightly outside my lip line (as I normally would with any lip balm). That was a mistake. My skin turned red and irritated wherever the product touched outside my lips and stayed that way for a couple hours, so whatever is in the product DOES work, but ouch. That was a painful misstep. You can see in the photo before where, even with careful application, some of it still seeped outside my natural lip line on day 7 and caused redness.
The Aftermath
Aside from the initial discomfort, what surprised me most was how dry my lips felt after using it for a couple of days. Even though the product contains hyaluronic acid and beeswax, it just didn’t leave my lips feeling moisturized. In fact, they felt rough and parched, almost like they’d been over-exfoliated. They weren’t cracked per se, but definitely uncomfortably dry.
I ended up layering a basic lip balm on top just to restore some comfort, but even then, the dryness lingered. Ourself recommends pairing this balm with their separate lip conditioner (which is another $45), but honestly, for the cost of the balm alone, I expected better hydration built-in. I also have the lip conditioner and I DO really like that, but in terms of moisture, I needed something more to use in tandem with the lip filler. The conditioner wasn’t enough for my lips.
Did It Work?
I used Ourself for a week (5 layers, morning and night), but honestly, the burning sensation made me dread application. To be fair, I did notice a subtle plumping effect after the first couple uses, but nothing dramatic. My lips looked slightly more defined and smoother, but it wasn’t the kind of “wow” result that would make me repurchase. Definitely not a replacement for actual lip filler, in my opinion. To be clear – I’ve never had lip filler, but I’ve seen it on many friends and this was not the same result.
Final Verdict on Ourself Lip Filler
This balm might work well for people with less sensitive skin or those who stick strictly to applying it within their natural lip line. But for me, the burning sensation and dryness outweighed the minimal results. I wanted to love it, and I know some people swear by it, but I can’t in good faith recommend it, especially not at this price point.
If you’re thinking about trying it, just know what you’re getting into and maybe keep a soothing lip balm on hand, just in case.
